CRAZY OR POSSESSED?

We call many emotional struggles personality disorders. The general conclusion is that something in the past derailed the personality. Professional psychologists report that even though World War II occurred 80 years ago, the survivors still suffer. But here’s the question. Why has the struggle lingered so long? Could there be more to the problem than what meets the eye?

And what about at home? Few residences don’t have a gun in a bedside table or under a mattress. Could there be more to today’s epidemic of death that we have generally understood?

The Bible promises freedom from such an environment. But is this freedom only metaphorical? Could it really mean freedom from being trapped by forces we can’t see? For the past few weeks, I’ve been exploring how divine miraculous interventions can truly set people free. Here’s an example.

Alice (name changed for anonymity) grew up in a tight knit family that went to the Catholic Church and participated in the sacraments as well as attending all the events. Her parents were involved in the Charismatic Movement. However, when Alice became a teenager, she started withdrawing. She became involved with questionable teenage friends and started moving away from the Church. Eventually, Alice married one of the boys that she partied with. The marriage turned out to be a struggle with lots of quarrels. Eventually, Alice and her husband came back to the Church but something was missing.

In desperation, Alice turned to her family and asked them to pray for her. For some reason, her father asked her to renounce the spirit of the Antichrist. Alice instantly put her hands on her cheeks and began to scream. Only later could she explain that a fear shot through her beyond anything she had ever experienced.

Alice was sent to a lady with a deliverance ministry. Fear continued to grip Alice and she couldn’t look the helper in the eye. As they talked, it became clear that during her wild teenage years, a lie had taken authority over her. While she returned to her faith, that lie had continued to live in her. The lie was that Jesus was not the truth. Alice had to renounce that lie to become free of its lingering effects Rather than a foolish thought, the lie had left her in spiritual bondage. Once rejected, Alice broke free.

Are the ideas you profess important? You bet. It can be a life and death situation. If you find yourself caught in a similar dilemma as Alice, the Holy Spirit waits to set you free. Such an issue is not a psychological problem or a personality disorder. It’s spiritual bondage created by Evil. The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth as you open to the working of the hand of God.

Remember miracles never cease.
