THE SPIRIT AND SPIRITS IN A BOTTLE
Issues with self-control often exceed the reach of contemporary psychology. When some aspect of our life spins out of control, we feel completely defeated and depressed. The fact that we can’t bring a problem under our direction makes us vulnerable to demonic attack. Evil becomes a BIG part of the problem. This is particularly true with drugs and alcohol dependence. Many, many people are conquered without recognizing that they are actually dealing with evil. They need the “Higher Power” to prevail. Here’s an example of the problem.
Von Blair worked in a local bank when an associate called him. They both knew Al Meachem and his serious drinking problem. As of late, everything had scattered and fallen apart. The associate knew Von’s son George Blair was a minister with a special ability to pray for struggling people. Would Von bring George to Meachem’s cabin for an intervention? They agreed to immediately pick up George and drive to Al’s house in the country.
Al Meachem had once been a successful businessman that came with a price. Drugs and heavy drinking often accompanied sales meetings. Al succumbed. When he met the three men at the door, Al was already drunk. George could see the inside of the house was dark and had a dismal smell.
Didn’t take a second to see that Al was out of control and drunkenness had captured his life. He stumbled around leading the men into his house. They sat down around a dining table. George Blair talked with Al for a few minutes and then began praying. George took authority over the spirits of alcohol as well as whatever demonic spirit dominated Al’s life. The three men prayed fervently for release from the control of Evil. Almost like standing in a vat of whiskey, the stench filled every corner of the house. Von walked to the window and opened it to let fresh air drift in.
George lay his hands on Al’s shoulders and in the name of Jesus of Nazareth demanded that the spirit of compulsion leave. He kept calling for the Holy Spirit to descend on Al and sweep him free of all pollution.
Suddenly, Al shook. He gulped and his jaw dropped. The three men all felt something happening. The spirit that had captured Al left. The dark room actually became brighter. At the same time, the gloomy depressing smell vanished. Al had been set free.
No, it doesn’t always happen like this and alcoholism can take months for recovery. This in no way minimizes treatment centers. The point is that this disease can become a vehicle for demonic possession and when that is the case, it must be delt with for what it is. The chains of demonic possession have to be broken by intercessory prayer. And they can be.
If you are looking for an answer to such a problem, don’t hesitate to ask the hand of God to break the chains that dominate. The heavenly Father can set you free.
