WHEN DEATH CAME TO THE DOOR—AGAIN!

In the last episode we began exploring how divine interventions can combat the impact of Evil. Many, many good people have missed the fact that they can be under an assault by the dark forces. Realize it or not, the attacks of the demonic continue day and night. An amazing number of folks believe in miracles but don’t recognize that the demonic is real also.

Last time, I wrote about the encounter that a friend had with a possessed young man. Our story involved an 18-year-old whose mother called Rev. George Blair about helping her deal with the son’s obsessions. George agreed to talk with him only to discover that the guy was standing there completely naked holding a butcher knife ready to stab!

George began talking and praying with Alvin but he didn’t put the blade down. For the next six hours the minister attempted to help the young man. What happened during those long hours?

Alvin slowly began to answer questions. He finally talked about his past and how he slipped into being possessed. Some of the time, Alvin mumbled incomplete answers, but George kept praying. After several hours, the minister noticed an unusual picture on the wall and asked Alvin where it came from. Several years earlier Alvin had gone into the southwest desert area. He found an old Indian shaman and spent the day learning the rituals some Navajos followed. Alvin seemed strangely attached to the picture. Alvin related that he and the shaman had exchanged gifts as he was leaving and that’s where the picture came from. Little did he know that Evil had been there.

Finally, George’s persistence paid off and Alvin was set free. The knife was put away and he dressed. As he was leaving, the minister asked if he could take the picture with him. Now a very different person, Alvin no longer felt an attachment to the scene and agreed for the minister to take it away.

George remained convinced that evil had in some way been attached to the strange composition. Once he returned home, he doused the canvas with lighter fluid and set it ablaze. Strangely enough, the painting wouldn’t burn. He tried several other ways to destroy the thing. Nothing worked. Finally, George buried the conveyor of Evil in the backyard and covered it with dirt. The picture’s influence was ended.

Was some of what happened to Alvin related to the picture? Apparently so. The design conveyed captivity even though Alvin couldn’t see the connection and the effect it had on him. Nevertheless, Evil can attach itself to things. But don’t worry as you have the power of the Holy Spirit to set you free. No matter what you might face, you can know that the power of the Cross defeated the Adversary. Just call on Jesus to provide cover. He always answers.

WHEN DEATH CAME TO THE DOOR

People are unaware of a serious issue. Why were 20 people killed at Lake Arcadia in Oklahoma by a shooter this week? Why was there an attempt on the White House the week before? Why did a 6 year-old boy shoot his first- grade teacher? Why is there constant violence? A problem with the drinking water? Of course, as silly as that sounds, our social awareness has dropped to such a level because the nation has lost awareness of the source of depravity.

We must recover a sense of the actual origins of such destruction. We will begin an ongoing exploration of how the intervention of the Holy Spirit can help us endure difficult encounters with evil. Strugglers desperately need the higher road.

Here’s an example.

(Name changed for anonymity) Rev. George Blair received a phone call from a desperate mother. Her son was out of control and she was frightened. The desperate woman didn’t know what to do and sounded frantic. She blurted out, “I heard you people can help with such a problem. It’s my son. Gone plum crazy. Please come and help me!”

The minister drove across the city to a small outskirt and an old house. When he went in, the home felt damp. The mother rushed forward and tugged on his coat. “My son’s gone over the edge. He terrifies me! He’s 18 and disturbed. Getting stranger by the hour! Please help us!” She pointed down the hall. “His name is Alvin.”

George started down the narrow hallway when the young man leaped out from the doorway stark naked. Alvin glanced at the minister and then darted into the room and slammed the door. George pushed the bedroom door open, but didn’t see the young man. Suddenly the door hit George. Alvin was standing behind it holding a butcher knife over his head.

“I will kill you.” Alvin screamed and held the knife even higher ready to stab.

George swallowed hard. “No!” He tried to sound unafraid although his heart was pumping frantically. “I have come in the name of Jesus.”

Alvin stared with confusion in his eye, but kept pumping the large blade up and down like at any moment he would stab.

George called aloud for the Holy Spirit to impart peace. He continued telling Alvin that God had a better plan for his life. ‘Don’t let Evil stay in control and make you do something that will ruin the rest of your life.’ He kept praying.

Some of the time Alvin screamed. At other moments, he wept, but he kept swinging the knife.

The pastor continued praying for the Holy Spirit to intervene. He continued talking and interceding for 6 hours. Finally, Alvin sunk to his knees and handed George the knife. A tragedy had been averted because the hand of God moved. You have the same capacity to thwart Evil. Don’t hesitate to call on the Holy Spirit to shackle the Corrupter.

But this isn’t the whole story. Next week I will tell you what followed. There’s more to come.

THE MIRACLE OF EXORCISM

People are struggling to escape the impact of evil. Chaos created by war, political conflict, inflation, as well as the price of gasoline, add up to pressure pushing everyone to the breaking point. Unfortunately, seldom does anyone suggest that there is more to this stress and problem than what they can see. Could something they can’t see be havingan impact they haven’t recognized? Could an evil force be lurking behind the issues that they create struggle? Think about it.

Miracles are not only liberation from health issues and calamities, wonders include divine release from demonic forces that are assaulting us right now. Here’s an example.

A Baptist minister called one of our bishops, seeking help. He couldn‘t find relief or release from these same pressures and feared he was reaching a breaking point. While hesitant to talk about his struggle, he admitted to continually feeling sexually tempted. The anxiety was wrecking his ministry and he didn’t know what to do.

At 9:30 p.m. in the late evening, he came pounding on the door. Bishop George let him in even though George’s wife was going to bed. The two men talked about the problem and then turned to Holy Communion already waiting on the dining room table. They gathered around the chalice and then deliverance prayers began. After a short while, the man’s countenance began to shift. His face took on a different appearance. Whether it was a phantasm that was imagined or a fact of the naked eye, the man’s face started to changed. The forehead began to protrude and the mouth became like an animal. He started growling like a wolf.

While this was happening, the bishop’s wife had gone to sleep and was dreaming. She couldn’t decide whether it was a dream or a fact, but a large German Sheperd dog seemed to have entered her bedroom. Moving like a wolf, the mongrel started to approach the bed. Seemed to be a dream, but the feel was extraordinarily real. She kept her eyes closed as the animal began licking her hand.

At that moment in the dining room, the bishop’s prayers brought release and a demonic presence left the man. He was free of the chaos swallowing him. In the bedroom, the animal abruptly disappeared and she awoke. Deliverance prayers had cleared and cleaned the house.

Oh, one other thing. The wife’s hand was wet.

Evil runs from the name of Jesus Christ. If you’re experiencing anything like the Baptist’s minister problem, you can ask for the same help. Deliverance is there for everyone. Don’t let the confusion around you obscure the fact that your Heavenly Father specializes in the unexpected. You can expect Him!
