WITCHES STILL AROUND?
Halloween is over. Pack up the masks and costumes and move on toward Thanksgiving. You can forget the annual Halloween and Hocus Pocus movies. Well, maybe that’s not quite correct. We’ve discovered that there are many old-fashioned witches that practice every day of the year. They’re still hard at it. I’ve run into them.
Our continuing interest through these weekly epistles is in describing the miraculous interventions that our Heavenly Father provides. At the same time, the Bible warns that destructive forces are out there and must be avoided at all cost. Witchcraft is still at work as hard as ever. Failure to do so, places us in peril.
Here’s a couple of stories worth remembering.
Everyone knows about Hollywood legend Bela Lugosi, the original black and white movie vampire. What many don’t know is that he became a drug addict and was captivated by the role of Dracula played in the movies. At night, he was seen wandering through his garden dressed in the cape and vampire outfit. When Lugosi died, he was buried dressed completely as Dracula black cape and all. He literally became the role that he played. The affliction created by evil was catching.
A popular Australian singer and member of a pop-rock band, a celebrity was a self-proclaimed witch. She wrote several books on the subject particularly aimed at young adults interested in witchcraft. She wholeheartedly embraced being a witch and promoted her cause wherever people would listen. The disease was spreading.
My point? Halloween’s gone but the threat of the dark side doesn’t leave with a change in the seasons. The time has come to continue to counter the evil influence. You can be part of shutting down these expressions of evil. We need to do so for the next generation.
In the meantime, stay away from all expressions of evil. Some forms become acceptable because of political or social pressure. That doesn’t change the fact that zebras still have stripes. They are what they are. Like a virus, these expressions can inflect. Keep your house in order and your relationship with your heavenly Father vital. Remember the presence of your heavenly Father continues to work in this world. The victory will be His!
