DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU’RE UNDER ATTACK?

Would you recognize a demonic attack when it’s coming straight at YOU? The truth is that most of us never give that possibility a thought. Couldn’t happen to me! Well, remember the six-year-old boy who shot his teacher in the classroom? How about those numerous attacks on students in universities? The death of innocent young women? Anyone see that coming?

The fact is that we are all vulnerable. Happens everyday and has been happening to you whether you recognized it or not. Because we struggle daily with this problem, we must adjust our spiritual radar to recognize when an attack is coming in. You can equip yourself to realize when the Enemy is zeroing in on you. Let me share a recent experience.

Mike and Ruth had taken a trip to Austria and were visiting an important monastery. Gottweig Abbey dated back to 1083. The monastery still offered a significant witness to the presence of Christ in the best and worst of times.

The guide had taken then inside one of the buildings that had important medieval paintings. They walked up to the second story of the stone building for a closer look at the painting that covered the vast ceiling. As they looked, the strangest thought crossed Mike’s mind. What if he rushed forward and pushed the guide over the railing? She would fall two stories to her death. All he needed to do was flip her over.

What a bizarre thought standing in the midst of an ancient house of prayer! Still, the thought became an impulse. He was actually contemplating pushing the woman to her death. As he tried to reject such a heinous thought, the idea became an urge. Mike felt himself pulled toward attacking her.

At that moment, he realized his mind was under fire. Evil had created this impulse in him. He immediately but silently prayed, “Gracious Father, Lord Jesus, please stop this demonic attack. Please cast out the deadly entity and free me.” He closed his eyes and prayed as the guide lectured. The deadly impulse immediately vanished. In an instant the impulse disappeared.

Could such happen to you? Sure, probably has. The answer is to turn from yourself and focus on the provision of the heavenly Father. I John 3:8 says, “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” You can depend on that fact to pertain to you. Be prepared for demonic impulses to appear. Recognize them for what they are: an attack. Turn to your Savior and He will set you free. That’s your answer!
