MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

WHEN A PSYCHIATRIST PRAYED

During the last month, we’ve been exploring Evil’s attacks on people who become victims. We considered the Apostle John’s warning about the craze for sex, the desire to have everything we see and the insatiable quest for power. We examined how defective thinking can open the mind to demonic manipulation. The Nazis demonstrated how distorted thinking kills people.

Last week psychiatrist Twilah Fox’s story revealed the difference between crazy and possessed as she shared her journey from atheist to devout believer. Here’s one of her cases that illustrates how to defeat the demonic.

When Mary came into Dr. Fox’s office, she walked like her legs were unbending blocks of wood.  Her arms and hands functioned like she was wearing boxing gloves. Mary’s face had a death like pallor. She was fighting paralysis. Still, Mary believed God had led her to Dr. Fox.

In the initial interview, Mary confided that her grandfather had played games with her using fortune telling cards. Consequently, she had gone to a fortune teller “just for fun.” In addition, grandfather used hypnosis on little Mary.  A strange confusion had settled over her and she was no longer able to work. Mary told Dr. Fox that she learned “to get inside her mind.” For years, she had taught herself to go deep inside to a hidden place where she shut out the world.

Dr. Fox immediately recognized that Mary had slipped into an altered state of consciousness and was hypnotizing herself. Her past along with this experience had opened a door making her vulnerable to the demonic. This retreat from reality had taken Mary to a preoccupation with death feelings and she occasionally thought maybe it would be better to just die. Fear overwhelmed Mary.

Relying on the Holy Spirit’s leading, Twilah Fox knew the problem was not psychological but of the spirit and that the demonic had taken over Mary’s life. Dr. Fox began praying for deliverance and reading scriptures that pertained to the condition.  The psychiatrist prayed for Satan’s power to be broken. She cried out, “Spirit of mind control, come out!”

Mary’s mouth fell open as the spirit in her screamed at the top of her lungs for a full three minutes. Dr. Fox jumped up and shouted louder than the scream, “Come out in Jesus’ name!” A satanic look of hatred swept across Mary’s face, but Dr. Fox didn’t back away. She grabbed a bottle for anointing oil as she prayed. Finally, Mary became silent. She swallowed hard and looked at the psychiatrist. “Thank God! It’s gone.” The ‘wooden legs’ and swollen arms problem disappeared. Paralysis vanished.

Medical insight and divine inspiration can equip you to deal with any problem that confronts you. Stay away from the fortune telling, mind invading experiences and ground yourself in the promises of scripture. You are not crazy if you need deliverance. Call on the Holy Spirit to set you free. Never hesitate to ask your heavenly Father to liberate you. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Victory and He wants to share that victory with you.
