MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

SUMMER RERUNS

The corona-virus pandemic has made it impossible for me to make the contacts to continue reporting extraordinary happenings to ordinary people. However, I’ve got a mail bag of these great stories so I’m recycling some that you probably never read. Here’s an example.

SURPRISING CHANGE

Generally, people form their expectations of what God can do and does from what they’ve read in the Bible –only. For example, if a healing doesn’t occur instantly, they decide prayer doesn’t work. If Welch’s grape juice doesn’t become Gallo wine, they are discouraged. Let’s be clear, there’s no problem with what is in the Bible, but the stories must be seen as examples of a starting point and not a finish line.

We must add continuing human experience and consider the Bible as a spring board. The scriptures call us to open our eyes and hearts to greater expectations. Charlotte had such an experience.

In August, 2012, Charlotte had a total knee replacement. She knew it was coming and had put it off too long. Of course, knee replacements can be painful and Charlotte struggled. She knew about Leslie Draper and her ministry that stemmed from contact with the angels. Some people might consider that approach on the bizarre side, but Charlotte needed help. And Leslie was anything but bizarre.

From years of working with human need, Leslie had learned how to listen to angels. She silently turned to them to hear their direction for what should happen next. In Charlotte’s case, the direction was for an “energy healing.” Interesting indeed.

Angelic direction suggested that the problem was that Charlotte’s body was treating the knee replacement as a foreign object and attempting to reject the intrusion. The body’s resources were focused on getting rid of the artificial knee rather than embracing it.

Leslie came and prayed for a shift in the body’s energy. Her prayers and ministry were aimed at bringing the knee into harmony with the body. The sessions were aimed at restoring concord in Charlotte’s entire system.

Thirteen days after the surgery, the doctor took the staples out. To his shock, there was little swelling. Healing was far better than he expected. The next step was the physical therapist doing a knee flexion measurement on the knee. He, too, was shocked and surprised. The therapist told Charlotte that in two to three months the goal was a measurement of 120 degrees. In three weeks, Charlotte measured 128 degrees.

Charlotte had a divine intervention.

It wasn’t walking on water – but it was walking across her living room with no pain. The heavenly Father cares about such things. Expect Him to care for you – without defining how, when, and where His response will come.

If you’ve encountered a divine intervention, I’d like
to hear you’re your experience.

SUMMER RERUNS

The corona-virus pandemic has made it impossible for me to make the contacts to continue reporting extraordinary happenings to ordinary people. However, I’ve got a mail bag of these great stories so I’m recycling some that you probably never read. Here’s an example.

ENCOUNTERING AN ANGEL

Miracle talk and divine intrusions generally seem to occur among Christian people. In many Christian groups there is an unspoken assumption that Jews wouldn’t experience such things. Even though the Old Testament is filled with miraculous events such as the Red Sea parting and Elijah raising a widow’s dead son back to life, Jews are excluded today. Wrong.

Here’s an example to consider. I’ve discovered that an important ingredient in Jewish life is an encounter with God as well as divine leading. Karen Z. Brass is a close friend whose family live near me in Colorado. Her father was a survivor of five death camps including Auschwitz. Today her family regularly attends a synagogue.

Around seven years of age, Karen began dreaming about escaping her dysfunctional family and an extremely difficult and abusive mother. As she took her reoccurring dream of escaping this family setting apart, Karen began to understand she was being saved by angels.

This experience expanded with the emergence of a “circle of light” that appeared at night giving her the assurance and security to go to sleep. Angels were regularly quieting her fears.

When Karen became an adult woman, she became aware of spontaneous thoughts that popped into her head and gave her guidance. For example, she would hear a thought like “take the umbrella.” If she didn’t pay attention, it would rain and she’d get drenched. “Don’t wear those shoes” might come through. If she went ahead and wore them, Karen was certain to trip and fall. In time, Karen realized that she had a guardian angel who kept her protected. When the angels spoke, it began like a whisper. If they repeated the message, the whisper got louder. Karen now often holds out her hands to let the angel know she is paying attention.

Karen met her husband David through an angelic intrusion. At a synagogue service, as she started to park her car, the angelic voice insisted she move to a different place than she intended. Karen argued that she saw a better spot but the angel was insistent. She gave in and parked as guided. During the service, she met David for the first time and was immediately attracted. Continuing their conversation, David walked Karen out to her car. To her surprise, she had parked next to him!

Today, Karen never ceases to listen for angelic guidance.

While not a miracle, hearing and being guided by angels is definitely a divine intrusion. Obviously, the angels don’t stop to check your religious membership card before they respond. Here’s a word of encouragement for you. Is it possible that some of your thoughts might not be random? Could you have been guided by a guardian angel and didn’t know it?

It’s worth thinking about.

If you’ve encountered a divine intervention, I’d like to hear your experience.

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Robert Wise explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view.

SUMMER RERUNS

The corona-virus pandemic has made it impossible for me to make the contacts to continue reporting extraordinary happenings to ordinary people. However, I’ve got a mail bag of these great stories so I’m recycling some that you probably never read. Here’s an example.

DIVINE INTERVENTIONS IN HOLLYWOOD

In 2007, I wrote Crossing the Threshold of Eternity about the near-death experiences of people I knew who had returned to earthly life after being pronounced medically dead. Some of these stories were miracles; others divine interventions. However, they touched a nerve with many people who worried about their own deaths. These experiences revealed that the hand of God kept working when the human heart stopped.

Recently, CLOSER magazine revealed the stories of several Hollywood actors who had similar experiences. While not all were in the category of “a miracle” as defined in previous blogs, they reflect actions by the Holy Spirit that challenge us to dig deeper (which is the purpose of these blogs).

I write about people I know or have interviewed. I do not know actress Sharon Stone, but her story is important to share. As she lay in UCSF Medical Center fighting for her life, the actress thought her pain was so great that her head might explode. Doctors frantically searched for a cause, but the throbbing increased and Sharon thought her life was ending. She was experiencing a subarachnoid brain hemorrhage.

Abruptly, an over-powering sensation of well-being and peace descended over her. She felt her body leaving the hospital room and floating toward a glowing, expanding light. Sharon Stone believed she had died.

As she moved into the realm of this glorious light, she met some of her dearest old friends who had died. She was deeply moved as they talked and recovered contact. Sharon knew that she had left this world behind and was in a place of a wonderful light that brought reconciliation. Suddenly, she was sent flying back to the hospital room and returned to her body.

After she recovered, Sharon Stone realized that this experience had so affected her life that she would never be the same again. She was no longer afraid of dying and now says that she sees death as a gift. Sharon knows she is never alone.

Sharon Stone’s doctor Michael Lawton has worked with many people who had such experiences. He noted that when they encounter loved ones who had already died, they found them to be in “the peak of health, fit and happy.” The doctor has seen this many times. Her experience confirmed his observation.

What can we conclude? The goal of my blogs is to help readers rediscover a biblical perspective on divine interventions and healings. The objective is to raise the bar in their expectations. Sharon Stone’s experience can certainly help us to do so.

SUMMER RERUNS

The corona-virus pandemic has made it impossible for me to make the contacts to continue reporting extraordinary happenings to ordinary people. However, I’ve got a mail bag of these great stories so I’m recycling some that you probably never read. Here’s an example.

I became interested in this subject because of a totally unexpected happening. A friend had invited me to attend a non-denominational gathering called Camp Farthest Out, a name given from the place where the movement began. The group emphasized love and healing prayer for all needs. I was a college student who certainly wasn’t into that type of expression, but I was in for a big surprise.

During an afternoon prayer session, I witnessed a woman recover sight in an eye that had been blind since she was five-years old. I was shocked, but knew I had stumbled on to some type of new paradigm I couldn’t explain or understand. Students in my university would not have believed in such a thing, but I had seen it with my own eyes.

Ten years later I came down with acute Nephritis, a serious kidney disease, causing my kidneys to begin shrinking. Once shrinkage begins, there was no cure at that time except to go on dialysis (not much hope there for a young man four decades ago). Later in another blog, I will describe the amazing experience that not only cured my illness but restored my kidneys. I had received a miracle (when I wasn’t even open to such a possibility).

When I tried to tell ministers and pastors that I had experienced a healing, most looked at me like I was still sick. The sympathetic didn’t know how to respond. Fundamentally, no one knew how to make any sense of my recovery. They just let it go.

That’s the problem. In most of today’s churches, folks don’t know what to say and let the subject drop. Pastors who don’t want to be thought of as fanatics won’t explore the subject. A high percentage of television evangelists have been discredited and clergy don’t want to go through that washing machine ringer. The subject of miracles simply hasn’t been considered. My concern is to see this blindness healed.

What can we learn from these two experiences that initiated my interest in miracles?

First, illness, sickness, and brokenness are an invitation for God to work. While disease and disaster often make us run for cover because nothing seems to work, they are also an invitation to turn to our heavenly Father with new expectations for His touch. God works directly and indirectly. Sometimes, He uses doctors, hospitals, and surgery. On other occasions, the Lord works directly. The basic issue is to recover trust in Him.

Second, we need to become open to trusting Him in every situation. Regardless of how events transpire, we expect Him to accomplish His purposes. Many people never pause to recognize they are simply not open to seek a Divine intervention. Open the doors of your heart and see what follows/

George Vey was an interesting guy. For years, he had been a Dutch dairyman in Orange County, California and a staunch Calvinist (very) conservative Christian. Before Los Angeles spread all over Southern California, there were many such dairy farms around San Dimas, Irvine, and the rolling countryside that was always warm and pleasant in the winter. George was contentedly running his farm when a real estate developer came along with a deal to build a mall on George’s pasture. Overnight George became a multi-millionaire.

One evening I was talking to him about faith and the subject of St. Francis of Assisi came up. George abruptly told me that he had a devotion to St. Francis. I was surprised because that idea couldn’t have been more contrary and foreign to his Protestant Evangelical faith. George told me this story.

Struggling with painful ulcers, his wife pressed him to go with her on a trip to Rome. George didn’t want to see the Eternal City, but agreed to go if she’d go with him to Assisi. He didn’t know a great deal about St. Francis, but profoundly admired him, his work, and his spirit. In order to get George on an airplane, his wife agreed.

Well before the last earthquake shook the Basilica, St. Francis’ grave was beneath a pile of rocks under the church where the famous frescos of Giotto hung. With his ulcers stinging, George walked down the stairs and sat down only feet away from the grave of St. Francis. He had no idea what he might see, but wanted to express his admiration. As George looked at the sight, abruptly before him a figure appeared in a brown robe with a robe cinch around his middle and wearing sandals. George instantly knew he was looking at the 12th century Francis of Assisi. Francis smiled and communicated telepathically that he was moved that George had taken the time to come to his grave to express respect and appreciation. Francis conveyed a blessing to George.

George stared in astonishment, almost not believing what his eyes saw. And then the figure was gone. George sat transfixed. After a long period of contemplation, he went back upstairs to join his wife.

Three days later they were back in Rome. For the first time, he explained his experience to his wife. She asked why he had waited days to tell her. “Because I wanted to make sure what happened was real. I know it is because my ulcers are gone.”

The condition never returned.

To the time of his death, George’s experience remained a miracle for him. Uniquely and for His own reasons, our heavenly Father can interject something wonderful into our lives. Could it happen to you? Sure.

Divine intrusions happen all the time.

SUMMER RERUNS

The corona-virus pandemic has made it impossible for me to make the contacts to continue reporting extraordinary happenings to ordinary people. However, I’ve got a mail bag of these great stories so I’m recycling some that you probably never read. Here’s an example.

Patty Sills’s condition was diagnosed as Tardive Dystoma which meant her neck muscles continually contracted and pulled her head to one side. Patty had no control over her neck and was in constant pain. The condition made her spine bulge. She could be medicated but not cured. Doctors told Patty she would have this condition the rest of her life.

Patty told me that she didn’t want to live anymore. She couldn’t work or pursue any hobbies because she was so uncomfortable. Patty was certain she would be better off dead. Her voice sounded desperate as she described her deteriorating emotional condition.

Having grown up in the Roman Catholic Church, Patty had lots of problems with church procedures. Organized religion only imparted other issues. Consequently, she was particularly skeptical about TV healers and churches in general.

Leslie, a young woman who had a reputation for talking with angels and praying for hurting people, was introduced to Patty. The whole idea seemed absurd, but Patty was desperate.

Leslie asked Patty to lay flat on a table and she began to pray. Leslie’s hands became so hot that heat radiated through Patty’s body. When Leslie moved to her neck, Patty went into a convulsion and felt outside herself. She had to have help to stand.

The next day everything changed. Her incurable condition completely disappeared. If you ask her if she believes in miracles, she will tell you that she is living proof they still happen.

Since I began working on this subject, I have been amazed at how many stories I have turned up. They often come from people I know who have been reluctant to talk about their experiences that powerfully reordered their lives. In the contemporary world immersed in scientism and secularization, the idea that Divinity still reaches into everyday life and radically changes physical problems is considered nonsense. In the average mainline church, no one has seen a miracle or expects to encounter one. The subject remains closed.

But so were a number of other practices that are now totally accepted.

In the late ‘60s when I came out of seminary, people who claimed such cures were considered on the crazy side. Consequently, talk of miracles has been off the table for a long time. In these blogs we will be exploring many stories like Patty’s and will hopefully help you discover how to become a part of this new revolution that the Holy Spirit is bringing to the world. Miracles still happen!

NANCY STAFFOR: CHRISTIAN IN HOLLYWOOD

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Robert Wise explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. Can 21st century people believe the hand of God still touches people today?

NANCY STAFFOR: CHRISTIAN IN HOLLYWOOD

MATLOCK, the television series with Andy Griffith, has made a new comeback on the Me-TV series. The “good old days” series like Gunsmoke, Carol Burnett, Gomer Pyle, etc. are so much better than most of the contemporary mindless sit-coms that people are tuning them in again.

One of the regulars on MATLOCK was Nancy Stafford who played Andy’s secretary Michelle Thomas. Through the years, Nancy Stafford performed on a host of other shows such as Seasons of Miracles, Quantum Leap, The Mentalists, and a host more. Nancy had the highest praise for Andy Griffith as an actor who cared deeply about what he did. He could memorize the courtroom scenes so well, that at the end of a shooting, everyone clapped. Griffith made sure every aspect of a set was perfect. Nancy adored working with him.

Nancy grew up in a Christian home and was taught that it was important to have a relationship with God. She grew up knowing about divine interventions. However, once she plunged into the acting world, she took a different path for 15 years. Today, she remembers that her personal choices left her a broken person. Going from boyfriend to boyfriend, her career boomed, but her life didn’t. During this time, she studied Buddhism, Rosicrucianism, as well as Hinduism. She had become a religious seeker without answers that worked.

At that point, Nancy discovered she had developed a cancer on her face. Her ‘perfect life” could disappear in an instant. Nancy was in turmoil. She was working on an episode of “Magnum P.I.” in Hawaii and shooting on the beach. Nancy brought her Bible with her and was reading it. As she studied the promises in the Bible, a change began forming. At that moment, she began experiencing an incredible encounter with the Living God. Nancy knew she must depend on Jesus Christ in all of her choices. She realized that the hand of God had enabled her to be a successful actress and would lead her through recovery from the cancer. A divine intervention changed her entire life.

Today, Nancy is an inspirational speaker and works with Christian groups as well as continuing her acting career. She prays about the roles that she accepts. Nancy works to help the public understand God loves them, cares for them, and provides them with hope.

Are divine interventions still possible? Nancy Stafford believes the pages of the scripture can lead anyone to a vital and dynamic relationship with their heavenly Father.

A HEALING TOUCH

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Robert Wise explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. Can 21st century people believe the hand of God still touches people today?

A HEALING TOUCH

As I talked with persons having an experience of divine intervention, more than once I ran across someone with a healing touch. The idea of a “touch” is actually not that different from people who can draw images that move us. The artist’s touch was with a brush. Author’s “touch” us with their words. Where do such abilities as painting and writing come from? Why do some have the gifts and others don’t. Fundamentally, “touch” is God given. The healing touch is all part of the same gifting from our heavenly Father.

Here’s an example.

Maurice Tester, a “property consultant,” in London, England, suffered with a prolapsed disc in his spin. Of course, he struggled with great pain. Unfortunately, doctors had no answer and no one could produce a cure. The only possibility offered to Maurice was a surgical operation that had a limited hope of success. He was pushed against the wall.

Someone suggested that Ted Fricker might help. Fricker had a reputation of being a healer and a person with an extraordinary “touch.” Anything would be better than what Maurice Tester lived with. He knocked on the door of Mr. Fricker.

Ted Fricker welcomed Maurice and had him come in and lay down and stretched out flat. Ted Fricker began to run his hands up and down Maurice’s back. For about ten minutes, he gently moved up and down Tester’s spine. Slowly, the pain began to diminish. Finally, at the end of ten minutes, the pain disappeared. Maurice went home a happy man. He came back to Ted Fricker for several more visits and the pain never returned.

The orthopedist Maurice had been going to confirmed that he had received a total healing and natural remission was impossible.

When his ability to bring healing was explored, Ted Fricker said that whatever capacity he had came directly from God. What he did during a treatment was only following what he believed the Holy Spirit silently whispered in his ear. Maurice’s cure was only one of many.

What should we conclude? First, God gives the gift of healing “touch” as He chooses and many people have the gift. Second, we should be open to the gift being used on us when we have need. Third, we should be open to the Holy Spirit visiting the gift to us. We don’t have to seek to be known in our community, only available to help when there is a need.
