 HEALING THE VOICE

Beck Hobbs kept having premonitions of a bad car wreck. Around Christmas time, her worried increased that some disaster might be ahead. She would even wake up in the dreaming of  the impending crash, but nothing happened and she blew the worry off.

Becky’s birthday was January 24 and she was thinking about that celebration when it felt like somebody was tugging on her sleeve. The pull felt like she was being directed to leave the house and stand in the front yard. At 3:00 in the morning that didn’t seem like a good idea but she gave in.

Standing there looking at the sky, she cried out, “What do you want me to know?” A booming physical voice answered, “Be careful, this may be your last birthday.”

Even though the voice was commanding, for some reason this sudden call didn’t frighten her. She sensed the voice meant to help her. However, that one sentence of warning was all she heard.

The next day, Becky left for Alabama to play for a police benefit. After the concert she loaded up her equipment, got in the van and the driver took off. They had just come to an inter-section when she looked up and saw an eighteen-wheeler van barreling down on her.

 “God help us!” she cried. “He’s not going to stop!” She cried for the driver to stop. Becky remembered that voice in the night and screamed, “Hit the brakes!” The driver of the eighteen-wheeler came sliding into Becky’s vehicle. The collision sent Becky’s van spinning, but they were alive.

The police investigating the accident said, “A split second saved your life. One more second and you’d all been killed.”

At that moment, Becky remembered the voice in the night and realized who it was. An angel had spoken and prepared her to be ready for the accident. The voice was her guardian angel. After reflecting, Becky felt she had a goal to help others learn to listen to the voice of their angel.

In communicating with people like Becky, I’ve learned that often we have an unexpected thought, a nudge, an idea that comes out of nowhere and that might possibly be our guardian angel directing us. At such moments, we can stop and pray, “Are you there? Can you speak to me? What do you have to tell me?” You might be surprised by what you discover.

 FINDING THE RIGHT PERSON

Scripture talks about “gifts of the Spirit,” meaning divinely imparted abilities to be a channel of the power of God. The passing centuries have been filled with stories of devout people who have been conveyors of that grace. Bernadette Soubirous, Kathryn Kuhlman, Oral Roberts, John Wesley, the three children at Fatima, on and on. They were all ordinary people who develop extraordinary ministries.  When we have a problem or a need, often it’s helpful to seek out such persons.

Robert Waller found this fact to be true when his wife heard of such a ministry over the television.  Here’s the story.

According to his doctors, Richard Waller was just a few short years away from permanent dependence upon a wheelchair and a pacemaker to assist his ever-weakening body and heart. He was living in constant chronic pain, suffering from two prolapsed disks, spina bifida, degenerative disc disorder, sciatica, arthritis, calcium deposits, and a heart condition called, arterial fibrillation. His wife, Jacqueline, had prayed for his healing, but his condition only grew worse.

Richard, who makes his living as a carpenter, found the pain with which he was suffering made it nearly impossible for him to work. As his condition worsened even picking up or playing with his small daughter became almost impossible. Richard underwent many types of treatments over the years, some very costly, to escape the pain. He used chiropractic methods and even facet joint injections, in which large syringes full of potent steroids were guided via live X-ray directly into his spine. All of his efforts provided little relief.

Jacqueline was surfing television stations, she came across the God TV channel; this was a surprise to her since they had never subscribed to it. Andrew’ Womack ‘s program happened to be broadcasting at the time. She decided to listen to what Andrew had to say. When Richard came home from work, she shared what she had found. Richard and Jacqueline decided that they wanted to attend one of Andrew’s meetings. Following the meeting, Richard made his way to the platform to meet with a prayer minister. He happened to connect with Andrew’s worship leader, Charlie LeBlanc. Richard gave Charlie the full run down of his extensive list of ailments.      

“There’s nothing too big for God, and we’re going to work on that right now,” Charlie responded without hesitation. Charlie prayed, Richard received.

When Richard headed back to his seat, he still felt pain, but when his wife asked him how it went, he responded, “I’m healed. Everything—I’m healed.”

The following morning, Richard noticed that he didn’t have to get out of bed in his usual way. He had become accustomed to rolling over onto his stomach, sliding down feet first onto the floor and resting on his knees, and then slowly mustering up the strength to push himself up off the bed into a standing position. It was at this moment that he fully realized he was completely healed.

Today, with a new lease on life, Richard is extremely active. He loves mountain biking, skiing and of course spending time with his wife and ten-year-old daughter.

The point? Some people have the gifts to be agents of a divine touch. If you are struggling, look for a church with such a ministry.

 JUST A GLANCE AWAY

Niki Anderson is a speaker and writer who remembers well her struggles as an eight-year-old child. She also reminds us of the importance of the church as a place of healing.

These weekly blogs started to help people discover and remember that the impact of secularism tends to blur our grasp that heaven is still here and the power of God has not disappeared. Niki is an example of that fact. 

As a sick child Niki struggled with bladder and urinary infections. After a long siege, the doctor advised exploratory surgery that could have serious consequences. Her mother prayed hard and then noticed an ad in the paper about a church meeting where a missionary prayed for the sick.  At the time, the family lived in Los Angeles and had to drive across town to attend the services.

The family walked into the church and found a section reserved for people who needed specific prayer. They sat near the back. A prelude was being played and Niki sat quietly, wondering what was coming next. A women’s voice asked, “Do you want prayer?”

Niki found a soft-spoken middle-aged woman with happy, blue eyes speaking to her. “Yes,” she answered.

As their eyes met, Niki felt a surge of compassion fill her body. The sensation was clearly holy. The service continued and near the end, people were called to come forward by the missionary minister. To her surprise, when the he started to pray for her, he exclaimed “It’s me that being healed! I’ve had bleeding ulcers! When I touched this little girl, I felt the healing rush through my body!”

The next morning Niki’s parents took her to the hospital and prepared her for the operating room. She was wheeled in for the procedure to begin. After a few minutes, the doctor came out.

“I have no explanation for this, but all inflammation is gone and there is no indication of any abnormality. There is no need for surgery. It’s strange but we can only be pleased.”

Niki knew that the previous night at the church had ended her problem. The hand of God had worked through the women with the gentle, blue eyes. The church remains the best place to find God at work.

TRANSFORMATION    

David Gurno was born in the Red Lake Indian Reservation in North Minnesota, one of thirteen children. He grew up in a world where everyone drank all the time. David watched his parents, siblings, and other Chippawa friends drink heavily from the time he was a small child.  Thirty-eight years later, his incessant binges landed him in a state mental hospital.

Staring up at the ceiling, David saw large birds descending on him that began picking at his face. Trying to escape the scavengers, David looked at the floor. To his shock, he saw snakes and vile-looking creatures crawling up out of the drain. Alcoholism had turned David Gunro into a madman.

A thought rolled up in his mind. Months earlier a man had said, “Dave, I know someone who can help you. His name is Jesus.” As that recollection ruminated, he wondered if the man might have been an angel.

David realized that he desperately hoped that offer was true.  He cried out, “Jesus if you can do what that man said and if you’re really real, I need your help!  I need you to take this desire for alcohol away from me and give me a new life.”

Nothing seemed to have happened, but he crawled up in his bed and went to sleep for the first time in two weeks. When he woke up, David didn’t have the shakes. For the first time in longer than he could remember, he didn’t feel sick. Instead, strength seemed to have returned. The discovery shocked him. Had Jesus truly answered his prayer? The Man from Galilee had truly entered his life.

After he was released from the hospital, David came back to Minneapolis to find a job and start a new life. When he found his old drinking buddies, they were astonished by his sobriety. After he explained to those hard-core alcoholics how he had become and stayed sober, eight of them made the same decision to follow Christ and ask him into their lives. They stayed sober for the rest of their lives.

You don’t have to hit bottom to make the same discovery. Everyday with a thousand different problems and needs, struggling people reach out and find exactly what  and Who changed David’s life.

HOPE RECOVERED

You’ll want to look at my interview with Dee Dee Bailey on my YouTube Miracles Never Cease channel posted below. Amazement will follow!

Why do I post these interviews week after week and on YouTube month after month? Because we are fighting secularity across the world. That’s the idea that there is only you, no God, and you have no help outside of your own efforts. Sorry. That’s a completely wrong perspective.

Here’s another example.

 Brad Hentges was diagnosed with stage 2 bladder cancer accompanied by highly aggressive cancer cells. Because of the extreme cell situation, the doctor recommended total removal of his bladder and prostate immediately. Brad’s situation was highly serious.

A close friend suggested that Brad meet with Bruce Van Natta who had been through a similar problem and now prayed with others. When Bruce came to the restaurant where they met, he anointed Brad with oil, laid on hands, and prayed over him. The people in the café didn’t inhibit Bruce in anyway. That evening and the next day, Brad felt vibrations in his body that seemed to center on his lower extremities. The feeling felt strange, but he began to feel better.

When he went to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, doctors reviewed the data and continued to recommend radical surgery. Brad resisted and insisted they scope his bladder once more.

Agreeing, the doctor began the procedure, but stopped in the midst of the procedure to ask another doctor to look. After 15 minutes, a third doctor was called in. The next day the specialist reported the bladder looked fine and there were no traces of blood or bacteria in his urine. The tumors were gone!

Today Brad’s blood pressure and cholesterol are normal. During one examination, he was told that he now had the arteries and blood of a 25-year-old. He now says, “One fact I do now, Jesus heals.”

Do miracles continue? All the time! You can put away those suggestions that you only have yourself. God remains with you. Don’t be afraid to talk to him.

BROKEN RESTORED  

The Russian invasion and assault on the Ukraine demand a need for assurance of heavenly intervention. Once more, we can assure the citizens they are not forgotten by heaven.

Brad Hentges and his daughter had gone riding when he was thrown by a young horse.  His pelvis was separated from his back along with internal injuries. After time in the ICU unit, Brad returned home still struggling with intense pain. After three months of barely being able to walk, the doctors concluded the pelvis had become unstable, needing a metal place with screws. However, the surgery might not relieve the pain.

Brad and his wife began praying. None of the options sounded good.

A friend came over to shoe the horse and recognized how much pain Brad was in. He was barely able to sit or stand. The friend remarked that he had a friend who appeared to have a gift of praying for people with Brad’s problem. The man had seen many healings. Would Brad like a visit from Bruce Carlson? Certainly!

When Bruce Carlson arrived, Brad’s pain continued to be so intense that movement was difficult. Bruce observed the situation and had Brad remove his shoes. Holding the feet together, everyone could see Brad’s right leg was a complete inch shorter than the other one. In other words, his pelvis was out of alignment with a tilt to the left. As Bruce began to pray, he affirmed his faith in God’s word and that they should trust Jesus Christ to be what he promised to do. He prayed for Brad’s pelvis and misalignment to be healed.

Much to Brad’s amazement, he watched the right heel abruptly extend, pass the left heel in length, and then return ending exactly the same leg as the right leg. Brad’s back and pelvis were in alignment.

Bruce asked Brad to stand. This time, he put his hands on Brad’s hips. Once more, Bruce affirmed his conviction about faith in Christ with the power to bring healing. At that moment, Brad felt like his joints were being squeezed together. Even though he was still feeling some pain, Brad knew something was different. The next morning, he awoke with less pain and was on his feet much longer. By Sunday, he was pain free and helped load and unload three moving trucks. The problem did not return.

Brad will tell you today that he is thankful the Lord’s servant Bruce Carlson was sent. His faith is stronger than ever. Could God do the same for you? Think about it.

IN A TIME OF NEED

With the Russian invasion and assault on the Ukraine, citizens will be hurrying out of the country and praying for protection. They will need assurance of heavenly oversight. We can assure them they are not forgotten by heaven.

Robert Weston remembers well the days of the Soviet concentration camps when a message was smuggled out, “We need prayers – but lead such lives that God can answer your prayers.” This plea impacted Robert.

He was in Paris studying modern languages when a sense of a need for repentance settled over him. On a particular night he deeply felt the need to pray. The most outrageous prayer poured out. “Lord, let me go to heaven tonight.”

Robert did not go to heaven as much as heaven came to him. Unexpected, gloriously, the presence of the Lord filled the room. He could hear the inexpressibly beautiful sounds of heavenly worship. The harmony of never heard before music filled his ears.

While he couldn’t see the form or shape, Robert was overwhelmed by the presence of the Lord Jesus next to him. He asked if it was possible for him to ask Jesus questions. Could he appear to people on the other side of the world just as he had done with him? The answer was yes.  Robert’s sense of awe was beyond words.

For three hours, this miraculous experience surrounded Robert. Finally, he asked how in the future could he know this experience had happened and was not a product of his imagination. Robert was immediately directed to a passage in Deuteronomy 5:24 that summed up the experience.

“Today, we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him.”

When the time came to an end, Jesus assured Robert they would meet again though not in such a full way. On a future day, Jesus would call Robert to heaven.  Robert felt an immediate sense of grief that the encounter was concluding, but Jesus gave him the promise of the Holy Spirit.

Shortly thereafter, the Spirit came in power and with gifts. Robert knew that the people in those Soviet camps could experience the same empowerment.

Today, we can pray for the Ukrainian people that visitations of the Divine might fall on them. No promise is  abated by war.

Last week I recommended Wayne Weible’s Medjugorje :The Message (published in 1989, Paraclete Press) suggesting you would be moved by his accounts. I noted that Christians generally say the Apostle’s Creed affirming their belief in “the communion of the saints,” a conviction that departed saints continue to interact with believers even after they have entered eternity. Not a new idea, it’s been part of the Christian faith for 2,000 years.

Protestant Weible’s book describes the appearances of the Virgin Mary in the Yugoslavian town of Medjugorje. I noted such an encounter happened at Guadalupe that began the conversion of Mexico. The appearance of Mary to Bernadette Soubirous at Lourdes, France created the healing water of Lourdes where to this day people receive remarkable healings. The appearances of Mary at Fatima in 1917 related important vital messages for the world. At the time the Communist revolution was exploding. Mary instructed the visionaries (and everyone) to pray for its removal and spiritual renewal to follow. Decades later this occurred in December 1991. Mary also gave insight into the attempt to execute a Pope which happened to John Paul II. That past history can be confirmed.

As I studied these appearances, I noticed a “spin-off” effect from such appearances, empowering and enriching bystanders. People in the vicinity of the appearances or even away at a great distance received extraordinary results themselves. Rita Klaus experienced that blessing.

For 25 years, she struggled with Multiple Sclerosis.A teacher from Evans City, Pennsylvania, Rita attended a retreat at Ephrata House that communicates the story of Medjugorje. Later in the day Rita went to a church service when she felt someone grab her from behind. She felt a wonderful sense of peace surge through her body. The years of suffering with the disease suddenly disappeared.

Rita’s illness had affected her ability to teach and brought added stress on the family. She was unable to perform her usual tasks. Her legs became severely deformed and her bones bowed.  Rita’s right knee cap became displaced and had to be removed. She entered a rehabilitation hospital and prepared to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.

Laying in bed, Rita heard a voice say, “Why don’t you ask me?” She knew that in the Virgin Mary’s appearances she had told people to pray to her son for healing. Mary always pointed to Jesus. Rita began praying with her whole heart. A “bubbly” feeling surged through her body. Rita finally drifted off to sleep.

The next morning her husband helped her into the wheelchair preparing to attend a Scripture class that morning. Rita was sitting in the session when she began to experience a warmth in her feet and legs along with an intense itching. Abruptly, she began wiggling her previously immobile toes. Rita was dumbfounded.

When she returned home, she knew something was different. While wearing heavy braces on her legs, she could struggle along on crutches. Rita was getting out of the car  when she discovered she could take a few steps with no difficulty. Her heart was pounding! Could it be?

Once in the house, she unlocked her braces. Rita couldn’t believe her eyes. Her right leg was completely straight. Two previous surgeries had not been able to correct the problem. Rita couldn’t believe her eyes. Both legs were normal.

Rita began screaming that her legs were healed. She kept saying, “Thank you Jesus. Thank you blessed Mother!” For the first time in years, Rita stood up on her legs unassisted. She walked down the hallway. Astonished, she walked back shouting, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

Weeping and laughing, Rita called her pastor who immediately suggested she see a doctor. Her two daughters were shocked because they had never seen their mother without her handicap. The family cried together for joy.

Rita’s doctor examined her and kept muttering, “Tis can’t be! This can’t happen! It’s impossible! The doctor thought maybe he was talking to Rita’s twin sister. The doctor examined Rita at the hospital for confirmation. He begged her to tell him how this could have occurred. Rita related that people had prayed for her for years, but that she only prayed once.

Since that day, Rita Klaus has shared her story over and over again. Her explanation? Just another example of the “communion of the saints.”
