MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!
Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.
GUESS WHO IS WATCHING YOU?
If you haven’t noticed, we are in warfare. Evil is at war with Good and the battles rage on through the centuries. Wars like Afghanistan, Iraq and now Iran are symptomatic of the larger on-going struggle between the Divine and the demonic. In the struggle, Evil has had many names like Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub, Abaddon, Belian, Apollyon, the list goes on and on. Because Evil keeps changing disguises, the names change.
Our ancestors knew better than we do that this warfare involves spies and agents working for the dark side. The generic name for one of these instruments of Evil is witches. May jar you to discover they are still around and increasing in number. One estimate suggests that there are 1.5 to 2 million witches in American. Often going under the name Wiccan, the increase is startling. Trinity College’s American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS) recorded about 8,000 Wiccans in 1990, 134,000 in 2001, and 340,000 by 2008 — a more than 40‑fold increase. The war is far from over!
It may surprise you to discover that there are different categories of witches: crystal witches, green witches, eclectic witches, ceremonial witches, sea witches, etc. Each category claims to have their own unique skills. Probably, you’ve watched the portrayal of witches on TV in shows from Charmed, Hocus Pocus, Bewitched, to Sabrina the Teenage witch. We laughed because we didn’t take the programs seriously. Unfortunately, these caricatures were meant to entertain not inform. Here’s what happened to friends of mine when they encountered the real thing.
Mike and Susan Crane were young clergy coming back from a trip to Muskogee, Oklahoma when they stopped by a Braum’s restaurant and ice cream business. Through the front window, they could see a woman sitting at one of the tables. With her hair tied back in a multi-colored scarf, her puffy blouse sleeves and long dark skirt gave her the appearance of a gypsy.
The Cranes walked in and Susan whispered to Mike, “That woman certainly looks strange.” From clear across the large room, the gypsy appearing woman laid her spoon down and turned toward the Crane’s. “It’s not nice to talk about people!” She shouted and then turned back to eating.
People around the restaurant stared. Shocked, the Cranes hurried to order and leave. As they turned toward the door. The woman stood up and yelled. “You and your kind are an abomination to me. You are of the light and I am of the darkness! Leave me!”
The couple knew they had met a witch.
Don’t toy with witches of any kind as well as fortune tellers, palm readers, Tarot cards and Ouija Boards. Contemporary sorceresses don’t ride broomsticks, but they do come down your street in a car. Just remember a war is going on and they are part of the troops on the other side. You and yours are meant to walk in the Light, not darkness. Don’t be afraid because the Light has already won.
Remember miracles never cease.
