We are living in a time of significant confusion. People are disturbed by the actions of politicians and the impact these decisions are having on citizens. For encouragement, you might want to see the just released movie The Great Awakening. The true story relates how George Whitfield impacted the American Colonies and the effect it had on Benjamin Franklin. People learned to pray and seek the Holy Spirit. Even though over 200 years have passed, today’s problems and situations have a parallel to those early days. God was doing more than they realized.

Rick Goodwin (name changed for anonymity sake) bears witness to the same. Rick pastored a church in one of the outskirts of Chicago, Illinois. As part of his ministry, Rick developed a team of men who prayed for any need that came through their doors. They regularly held healing services.

During one of these services, a young lady came forward for prayer. Limping up the aisle, she had severe pain in one of her legs. The woman explained that some time in the past she had been walking down the street when someone fired a gun. Out of nowhere, the bullet hit her in the leg and she dropped to the ground. People gathered around and an ambulance was summonsed. She had been losing a great deal of blood.

At the hospital, she was immediately rushed into surgery and the doctor’s began to operate. The bleeding stopped and the wound was attended to, but unfortunately, the bullet was lodged in a sensitive area. Further surgery would endanger her life. After consultation, the decision was made to leave the bullet in place. The woman was told that many people live with unremoved bullets. She should go home and not worry about it. Except, the pain didn’t go away.

At Rick Goodwin’s evening service, the woman came forward for prayer, hoping the ministry team could bring relief. The men gathered around her and prayed for the woman kneeling on the floor. Slowly the pain faded and she found the relief she’d hoped for. Standing again, she took a couple of steps when she heard a clicking noise on the floor. When she looked down, she couldn’t believe her eyes.

The bullet had fallen out of her leg. God was doing more than they realized.

Don’t lower your expectations. While all healing remains a mystery, your heavenly Father never stops working. Don’t let the confusion around you obscure the fact that He specializes in the unexpected. But you can expect Him!
