MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

JUDITH’S MIRCLES

In my most recent YouTube interview, I related my previous relationship with Francis MacNutt and his wife Judith, both wonderful friends. Their Christian Healing Ministries newsletter just carried Judith’s experience of a miraculous experience in her life. I think you’ll find her story important.

At one time, Judith ran a House of Prayer in Jerusalem, Israel where she first met Francis. She returned to her home in eastern Kentucky and was still developing in the work of healing prayer as she continued to develop her capacity to intercede. On that particular night, she and her friends were preparing a dinner party with beef fondue. Boiling Crisco oil was almost ready to be poured into the fondue pot. The steaming container was carried to the table.

“I’m afraid that pan will burn the table,” Judith’s father said. “Let’s put a pan under it.”

As the pot was picked up, the handle snapped! Boiling oil erupted and drenched both of Judith’s hands. The pain instantly became excruciating!

A country doctor lived across the street. Judith was rushed over to him. The doctor took one look and cried “You’ve destroyed your hands!”

Without even a pause, the doctor told Judith what would be the consequences of such a deep burn. The devastating result would result in scars and possible infection. A second or third-degree burn would take the color out of her skin and leave her hands swollen and possibly painful to the touch.

Judith’s friends gathered around her and began praying. From their time in Israel, Judith and her friends knew that miracles could happen. They had seen them happen in their Prayer House. Judith and her team prayed for the hand of God to touch her hands.

By the time, Judith got ready to go to bed, her right hand was completely restored. It looked like nothing had happened. When she awoke the next morning, her left hand was healed.

Because that day was Sunday, Judith and her friends went to her childhood church. In this little country church, people often came forward to express new found faith. As she shared her story, the pastor and most of the congregation were astonished and didn’t know how to respond. The congregation couldn’t believe her healing was possible.  They didn’t believe healing happened in today’s world. Her experience was beyond any expectation they had.

Judith’s response? She smiled. Judith had received the touch of God that left all reluctance in the shadows. Is that possible for you? You bet.

BATTLING THE BOOZE

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

BATTLING THE BOOZE

Americans are drowning in a culture of addiction. Everything from drugs to alcohol is sucking people under. The social and political tensions in the current society exacerbate the problem. Groups like Alcoholics Anonymous continue to help people who struggler fight this problem. However, sometimes more is needed.

Here’s additional help.  Miraculous intervention can come through the faith of another person who walks with us through difficult days. Ron Adams (a fictitious name to protect the person’s identity) found that his wife Joyce’s faith made the difference in his recovery. Make no mistake about the fact that an addiction is frighteningly hard to break.

Ron and I became good friends after he gained control over his problem. One evening he told me his story.

During the years that he was an insurance salesman, Ron began drinking heavily. With an outgoing and engaging personality, he tried to cover his constant drinking, but the act failed. Joyce could see his blurry eyes, glazed look, and staggering gait when he came home in the evening. Her faith became the key that unlocked the sealed door in Ron’s mind.

Any possibility of faith in God was non-existent. As his drinking became even more compulsive, Ron had no idea where to turn because he didn’t believe in much of anything and his personal relationship with himself was crumbling by the hour.

However, Ron knew Joyce had a firm and consistent faith in God as well as exhibiting a personal relationship with her heavenly Father. The only thing keeping her staying with him was her unshakable faith. Could she have enough faith to carry them through? Ron believed she did. Desperate, he had no other place to turn. Ron made a decision to hold on to her faith.

That was the turning point.

When Ron wanted to drink, he would talk it over with Joyce. He kept holding onto her faith as his means of staying sober. Joyce kept praying. As the days passed, he stayed away from the booze. Without medication, a therapy group, or outside help Ron found his way to sobriety and a new-found faith. He personally discovered a God who could thwart his compulsion.

Ron believed that he had received a miracle.

If you, or someone you know, can’t handle an addiction, here is a way to that miracle by allowing someone else’s faith to be your support and strength until you find your own. You can act like you believe until you truly do believe. When you struggle throughout the dark, call out to the God who created you. He would be delighted to  bring you into the light and  help you  become whole.

PERSISTENCE PAYS!

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

PERSISTENCE PAYS!

When we are struggling with an illness or fighting pain, it’s hard to stay on track and keep believing. People may pray, but nothing happens. The tendency is to say, “forget that prayer stuff because it doesn’t work!” Understandable but that decision is going down the wrong path. The New Testament relates a number of stories about the importance of endurance when struggling to find a touch of God’s empowerment. The 18th chapter of Luke begins with the parable of the Persistent Widow. The text indicates that the parable was given to instruct the disciples always to pray and never give up.

Here’s an example of what endurance can bring.

Margaret McGuire knew about and believed in healing ministry. She discovered a tumor between the toes of the tarsal arch in her left foot. The pain felt like she had been touched by a red-hot iron. The sting lingered for months. As she was getting ready for bed and a night’s sleep, Margaret decided that she was going to give this condition to the Lord no matter how long it took to receive her healing. She began praising and thanking God.

The pain only continued to hurt with fury. Nevertheless, she kept praying.

Margaret particularly kept thanking God that he would heal her problem and remove the pain. Nothing seemed to be happening, but she kept thanking God.  She especially praised the Lord for this love and His faithfulness. No matter what lingered, Margaret kept thanking Him for His love and faithfulness.

Margaret’s prayer and praise continued into the evening without ceasing. She was determined that she would not stop until the pain disappeared. Like the Persistent Widow, she didn’t quit.

Her prayers of thanksgiving turned into only prayers of praise. Suddenly the pain was gone! The throbbing vanished. Her need had been met!

You could argue that her intercessions simply cut off the pain from reaching her mind. Doubters always have some alternative explanation. However, don’t try that on Margaret. She’s the one who demonstrated that the parable about persistence paid off.

When struggling, don’t give up. Just remember that Miracles never cease.

WHERE GRACE APPEARED

WHERE GRACE APPEARED

Most of these miracle blogs have been intended to help people discover divine breakthroughs, but along the way I’ve found that many, many people already believe in the promise. Even in a time of skepticism, 73% of Americans believe in heaven. A higher percent believe in a divine being. The problem for many is accessing the promises that comes with faith. Perhaps, we need to explore “how” we receive the miraculous more than only exploring the “fact” of their existence. Here’s an example of “how.”

Rev. Beth Owen worked in the Church of the Holy Spirit, ministering primarily to women. One young woman had struggled for a long time trying to conceive a baby. She and her husband had been concerned for a period of years and had almost come to the conclusion that conception was not possible. The young women arrived in Beth’s office in a state of desperation. She wanted prayer.

Beth was keenly aware of the admonition in James 5:14 for the leaders of the church to pray over the needy and anoint them with oil. The scriptural promise was that the prayer of the faithful would bring recovery to the sick person. Beth’s custom was to take this passage literally and do what it said.

After anointing the young woman with oil, Beth began praying for her in accord with the scripture. As she prayed, Beth felt a strong sensation come over her. She was certain the young women would conceive.

Nine months later, a baby was born.

What was the “how” in this divine intervention? First, the young woman’s desperation brought her to the church as the place where grace was poured out. She positioned herself to receive in faith. Second, Beth ministered to her according to the scripture, following a specific direction from the Bible. Third, Beth experienced an inner assurance that the matter was covered by God’s provision. The “how” was conveyed through the church.

Beth was always careful in sharing this story not to give other couples a false sense of security, but she continued to minister with results.

So, how do you relate to this “how?” You might want to take the ministry of the church more seriously than you have in the past. Finding an inspired clergyperson can be the key. Just remember. Miracles never cease.

TRICK OR TREAT

Well, well, here we are on Halloween! We’re suppose to get ready for scary stuff—monsters in the back yard and all. In Mexico, the holiday is called La Día de Los Muertos, The Day of The Dead, honoring those who have died. Sounds a little more civilized than the horror movies that always come with October. However, it is surprising when death can bring a miracle. Here’s a story that happened to a close friend of mine.

When she was around twenty-seven- years old, Donna’s mother died. The mother’s life had been caught up in turmoil and struggles. She had left her husband to become involved with an egotistical narcissistic man with little feeling or concern for anyone but himself.  No one knows exactly what happened, but she overdosed on some form of sleeping pills. Because she was estranged from her family, a state of upheaval and chaos followed. Donna and her sister Linda were overwhelmed. Everyone was pushed to their limit.

I came into the picture because I was Donna’s pastor. Her mother’s boyfriend didn’t want much of a funeral because he was hostile to all religious instructions. Initially, he only tolerated me.

When her condition was discovered, the mother was rushed by ambulance to a hospital. Upon arrival, she was pronounced deceased. Everyone was swept away with emotion. Donna and Linda made their way down to the small chapel in the hospital where they could be alone. Huddled together and kneeling at the rail in front of the altar, they poured out their grief in prayer.

As Donna cried out in prayer, she suddenly felt a hand on her shoulder. The warmth and pressure instantly felt reassuring. Although no one was behind her, Donna knew a presence was there. Reassurance surged through her.. And then an inner voice spoke. “Be at peace.”

At that same moment, Linda felt the identical touch and profound sense of assurance. Her brokenness began to break. Her despair drained. Everything was different.

“I think Jesus was here,” Linda whispered. “He put his robe around us.”

The two women stopped crying and knew they could live with what every happened next. I was able to establish a relationship with the boyfriend and a proper funeral followed.

Far, far beyond a Halloween “treat,” Donna and Linda had received a visitation that transformed the meaning of death. They could go on in confidence. Death could not be proud; Life had triumphed.

Just remember. Miracles never cease.

GUERILLAS IN THE MIST

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Rev. Robert L. Wise, PhD explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

GUERILLAS IN THE MIST

Sometimes the intervention of God comes in ways we would never expect. We may even participate unexpectedly without realizing that we are part of the way that the Holy Spirit is at work. Here’s an example.

The family of Margene Earl were Wycliffe Bible Translators in the jungles of south Mexico and often traveled through dangerous territory to get to their work. On one of these occasions, they found themselves trapped by a guerilla team blocking the road. Surrounded by thick jungle, a dense fog descended on them.

Wearing bandanas that marked them as part of an extremist militant group, the bandits pointed their AK-47 rifles straight at the Earl’s car. Because so many people had disappeared in the jungle, Margene was certain they were dead.

She immediately remembered the stories of Brother Andrew smuggling Bibles into Communist countries. God had protected him by blinding the border guards to the Bibles in the backseat of his car. Margene prayed, “God, you blinded the guards to keep from seeing Brother Andrew’s Bibles in his back seat and they let him cross the border. Please God, confuse these men so they cannot understand us and guide them to let us go on.”

Her father rolled down the window and began speaking to the men in Spanish. One of the rebels began trying to talk to Margene’s mother, but she couldn’t understand him. While she was quite capable of speaking and understanding Spanish, Margene started saying in English, “We don’t understand.” She leaned out the window on her father’s side and kept saying. “We don’t understand.”

One of the guerillas motioned for them to move on, but another one jumped in front of the car with his rifle pointed at both parents. Once more Margene screamed in English, “We don’t understand.”

The leader of the rebel turned to the other men and said in Spanish, “They are tourists. They don’t understand. Let them go.” They waved the car on.

Margene realized that God had answered her prayer in exactly the way she asked. For reasons that she couldn’t explain, Margene had spoken in English when she was quite capable of speaking Spanish. The guerillas were confused and ended up  being the ones who didn’t understand. The results were exactly the same as had happened with Brother Andrew.  It was truly a miracle that they had escaped and survived.

The lesson? When you pray, be open to all the possibilities, even ones that seem impossible. Just remember. Miracles never cease.

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

LOVE PREVAILS

These accounts hopefully encourage you to know the hand of God is there when your need occurs. No one can predict what will follow, but my interviews with hundreds of people indicate He is always there. Here’s an example.

Snow was falling everywhere in northern Michigan when Scott Peterson’s car went out of control and slammed him into a stranded motorist. In -9-degree weather, timing was critical, and Scott knew he was losing blood fast. His last word before losing consciousness was a cry, “Jesus!”

An ambulance rushed Scott to the hospital when doctors discovered his femoral artery was severed. The lower half of his body was in critical danger. During the seven-hour surgery that followed, Scott received thirty-two units of blood.

But that was just the start.

Forty-eight hours later, Scott was life-flighted to the University of Michigan in an effort to save his life and legs. With such a huge amount of lost blood, Scott wasn’t expected to live. His wife Diane was told amputation was probable and that he wouldn’t survive.

In addition to praying for his life, Diane refused to limit what her faith could provide, she reached out for God’s unconditional love. Diane knew she didn’t have the strength or patience to survive the ordeal, but she believed God would provide what was needed. She hung on in constant prayer.

Scott went into a coma that lasted for nine days and during that time flatlined. Everyone believed his life was over. But he wasn’t there.

During this time, Scott Peterson stood in the presence of the Lord. Almost unable to believe his eyes, Scott was with Jesus Christ. Later he remembered, “When I saw Jesus, I realized how much He loves us. I was very happy to see Him, but He was even happier to see me. I knew I was totally accepted.”

 Scott returned.

His wife was overjoyed, and he doctor was amazed at his rate of recovery. Today Scott is healthy and walks on his own two legs. He and Diane live by faith. They know love prevails.

Just remember. Miracles never cease.

A REDEEMING INTERVENTON

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Rev. Robert L. Wise, PhD explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

A REDEEMING INTERVENTON

Each week these stories are offered to encourage you to reach for the hand of God when need arrives. No one can predict what will follow, but my interviews with hundreds of people indicated that a divine intervention always waits in the wings. Steve and Holly Trover will tell you this is so.

In 2008, Steve was praying about his business when he felt the Lord telling him that they were to have another child. Already with three beautiful children, he was surprised as was Holly when he shared the leading. Holly conceived almost immediately. A couple of months into the pregnancy, they went to the doctor for an ultrasound test.

They were shocked.

After careful measurements and calculations, the physician relayed devastating news. Their baby would be born with Down syndrome. Explaining slowly and carefully, what the tests revealed, the doctor was certain the child would be born severely affected. His recommendation was that the pregnancy be terminated. The Trovers listened, but had no intent to have an abortion.

Steve and Holly turned to their small group for prayer and support. They reflected on the teaching of their church. They had also received insight from an Andrew Womack seminar.  Together they prayed and decided to stand on what they believed the Bible taught. Regardless of what was ahead, they decided to reject an abortion and stand in faith to face what was ahead.

When several months had passed, they returned to the doctor, he once again went through the examination process. The physician once more checked and rechecked. He took measurements several times. Finally in exasperation, he threw up his hands. There had been a transformation in the Trover’s baby.

Baby Nathaniel was born perfect.  Newborns are rated on a APGAR scale where scores range from zero to ten being the best. Nathaniel was a ten, a perfect score.

How does one find a miracle? Steve and Holly Trover suggest listening to the Holy Sprit and standing firm on what you believe to be true.

Just remember. Miracles never cease.
