MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

TRICK OR TREAT

Well, well, here we are on Halloween! We’re suppose to get ready for scary stuff—monsters in the back yard and all. In Mexico, the holiday is called La Día de Los Muertos, The Day of The Dead, honoring those who have died. Sounds a little more civilized than the horror movies that always come with October. However, it is surprising when death can bring a miracle. Here’s a story that happened to a close friend of mine.

When she was around twenty-seven- years old, Donna’s mother died. The mother’s life had been caught up in turmoil and struggles. She had left her husband to become involved with an egotistical narcissistic man with little feeling or concern for anyone but himself.  No one knows exactly what happened, but she overdosed on some form of sleeping pills. Because she was estranged from her family, a state of upheaval and chaos followed. Donna and her sister Linda were overwhelmed. Everyone was pushed to their limit.

I came into the picture because I was Donna’s pastor. Her mother’s boyfriend didn’t want much of a funeral because he was hostile to all religious instructions. Initially, he only tolerated me.

When her condition was discovered, the mother was rushed by ambulance to a hospital. Upon arrival, she was pronounced deceased. Everyone was swept away with emotion. Donna and Linda made their way down to the small chapel in the hospital where they could be alone. Huddled together and kneeling at the rail in front of the altar, they poured out their grief in prayer.

As Donna cried out in prayer, she suddenly felt a hand on her shoulder. The warmth and pressure instantly felt reassuring. Although no one was behind her, Donna knew a presence was there. Reassurance surged through her.. And then an inner voice spoke. “Be at peace.”

At that same moment, Linda felt the identical touch and profound sense of assurance. Her brokenness began to break. Her despair drained. Everything was different.

“I think Jesus was here,” Linda whispered. “He put his robe around us.”

The two women stopped crying and knew they could live with what every happened next. I was able to establish a relationship with the boyfriend and a proper funeral followed.

Far, far beyond a Halloween “treat,” Donna and Linda had received a visitation that transformed the meaning of death. They could go on in confidence. Death could not be proud; Life had triumphed.

Just remember. Miracles never cease.

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Rev. Robert L. Wise, PhD explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

GUERILLAS IN THE MIST

Sometimes the intervention of God comes in ways we would never expect. We may even participate unexpectedly without realizing that we are part of the way that the Holy Spirit is at work. Here’s an example.

The family of Margene Earl were Wycliffe Bible Translators in the jungles of south Mexico and often traveled through dangerous territory to get to their work. On one of these occasions, they found themselves trapped by a guerilla team blocking the road. Surrounded by thick jungle, a dense fog descended on them.

Wearing bandanas that marked them as part of an extremist militant group, the bandits pointed their AK-47 rifles straight at the Earl’s car. Because so many people had disappeared in the jungle, Margene was certain they were dead.

She immediately remembered the stories of Brother Andrew smuggling Bibles into Communist countries. God had protected him by blinding the border guards to the Bibles in the backseat of his car. Margene prayed, “God, you blinded the guards to keep from seeing Brother Andrew’s Bibles in his back seat and they let him cross the border. Please God, confuse these men so they cannot understand us and guide them to let us go on.”

Her father rolled down the window and began speaking to the men in Spanish. One of the rebels began trying to talk to Margene’s mother, but she couldn’t understand him. While she was quite capable of speaking and understanding Spanish, Margene started saying in English, “We don’t understand.” She leaned out the window on her father’s side and kept saying. “We don’t understand.”

One of the guerillas motioned for them to move on, but another one jumped in front of the car with his rifle pointed at both parents. Once more Margene screamed in English, “We don’t understand.”

The leader of the rebel turned to the other men and said in Spanish, “They are tourists. They don’t understand. Let them go.” They waved the car on.

Margene realized that God had answered her prayer in exactly the way she asked. For reasons that she couldn’t explain, Margene had spoken in English when she was quite capable of speaking Spanish. The guerillas were confused and ended up  being the ones who didn’t understand. The results were exactly the same as had happened with Brother Andrew.  It was truly a miracle that they had escaped and survived.

The lesson? When you pray, be open to all the possibilities, even ones that seem impossible. Just remember. Miracles never cease.

A REDEEMING INTERVENTON

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Rev. Robert L. Wise, PhD explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

A REDEEMING INTERVENTON

Each week these stories are offered to encourage you to reach for the hand of God when need arrives. No one can predict what will follow, but my interviews with hundreds of people indicated that a divine intervention always waits in the wings. Steve and Holly Trover will tell you this is so.

In 2008, Steve was praying about his business when he felt the Lord telling him that they were to have another child. Already with three beautiful children, he was surprised as was Holly when he shared the leading. Holly conceived almost immediately. A couple of months into the pregnancy, they went to the doctor for an ultrasound test.

They were shocked.

After careful measurements and calculations, the physician relayed devastating news. Their baby would be born with Down syndrome. Explaining slowly and carefully, what the tests revealed, the doctor was certain the child would be born severely affected. His recommendation was that the pregnancy be terminated. The Trovers listened, but had no intent to have an abortion.

Steve and Holly turned to their small group for prayer and support. They reflected on the teaching of their church. They had also received insight from an Andrew Womack seminar.  Together they prayed and decided to stand on what they believed the Bible taught. Regardless of what was ahead, they decided to reject an abortion and stand in faith to face what was ahead.

When several months had passed, they returned to the doctor, he once again went through the examination process. The physician once more checked and rechecked. He took measurements several times. Finally in exasperation, he threw up his hands. There had been a transformation in the Trover’s baby.

Baby Nathaniel was born perfect.  Newborns are rated on a APGAR scale where scores range from zero to ten being the best. Nathaniel was a ten, a perfect score.

How does one find a miracle? Steve and Holly Trover suggest listening to the Holy Sprit and standing firm on what you believe to be true.

Just remember. Miracles never cease.

WHEN THE UNEXPECTED BECOMES A GIFT

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

WHEN THE UNEXPECTED BECOMES A GIFT

I just discovered a host of messages from readers that had gone undetected for some time … even several years. In the age of computers, sometimes things go haywire. I apologize to my readers if I missed your communication. The responses have all been very encouraging. Remember, if you have had a miraculous intervention or discovery in your life, I’d like to hear about it. People all over the world are listening and need your word of encouragement.

Craig Michael shared an important story that happened to him as a pilot. Craig flies over fields and sprays wheat in the Spring time. He asked an ag-pilot, or also known as a crop duster, to come to Oklahoma and help him with a heavy schedule back in 2016. Of course, the friend knew little about the Oklahoma surroundings but agreed to help fly over the wheat fields.

From where the airplanes flew south of Oklahoma City is located a small cemetery. The old beautiful location is surrounded by trees and a peaceful quiet. The two pilots took off for their daily run as usual. Abruptly, Craig got a call from the other pilot. The man was clearly upset.

“I can’t believe it,” the pilot sputtered. “I didn’t know they were down there and I just flew low over a funeral in progress.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I’m sure I upset those folks. I wouldn’t have done so for the world. The roar must have scared them to death.”

“Look,” Craig said. “We have a job to do and you certainly meant no harm. I’m sure it will be okay. Let’s go to work.”

The pilots carried out their assignments and returned to the airport. The two airplanes taxied in and stopped. When Craig looked out, his wife was running toward the airplane, waving her arms. “There’s a bunch of people over here who want to talk with you. Don’t know what the situation is, but they are extremely well dressed. “

Craig got out of the airplane slowly, not sure of what to expect.

One of men dressed in black stepped forward. “We were just holding a funeral when an airplane flew over quite low. We wanted to know who was flying that plane.”

Craig shuddered. Did they have a big problem?

“Why do you asked?” Craig said.

“Our father was a crop duster,” the man said. “He died a few years ago and was buried in Oklahoma in the mid-‘70’s.  All eleven of us children grew up around airports. After his death, our family moved to California. When our mother died, we knew she’d want to be buried close to our father. So, we brought her back to be buried in the same cemetery.

“I see,” Craig said slowly. “I think I’m beginning to understand.”

“Having that crop duster fly over just as the service was concluding was the most comforting and memorable thing that could have happened. We were so very grateful. As our mother went to her rest by our father, we were profoundly touched by that fly-by. We wanted to thank the pilot.”

A miracle? I’m not sure I would put it in that class, but you might. Surely that ‘accident’ proved to be the hand of God touching and reassuring the morning family. Sometimes the touch of God comes in ways when we can’t decide whether it was only chance or Providence. However, when the timing is perfect, I’d bet on the hand of God showing up right on schedule.

Just remember. Miracles never cease.

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Robert L. Wise explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

HEALING PRAYER

Judith and Franics MacNutt have been friends and associates for many decades. No one better demonstrated and practiced the gifts of the Holy Spirit than this couple who founded Christian Healing Ministries in Jacksonville, Florida. Their vision for a healing center has inspired generations of believers. Judith now continues this work by herself. In a recent edition of Healing Line, their newsletter, she relates her personal story of the desperate need for the work of the Holy Spirit.

Living in the Appalachian small town of Jackson, Kentucky, little Judith was seven-years old when she learned that the high school girls would be coming to school in special party dresses for the school prom and she wanted to watch. Judith kept begging her mother to allow her to ride her bicycle to the school. Finally, she agreed only if Judith stayed on the sidewalk.

Immediately, Judith took off to watch the special school event unfold. She pulled up in front of the school to watch. Sure enough, the students began arriving, looking like a million dollars. Each couple looked like something out of Vogue magazine.

Judith didn’t notice that a car had swerved into the parking lot. The couple driving had been drinking heavily and didn’t hit the brakes Bouncing over the curb, the car came at Judith like a guided missile. She couldn’t get out of the way. The car smashed into Judith. The drunken driver was so disoriented that when he threw the car into reverse, he ran over her a second time!

Observers rushed forward to help the broken child. Because the town was small, they knew her and where her house was. Judith was picked up and carried home. The doctor rushed in to examine the child.

“No point in trying to get her to the hospital in Lexington,” the doctor concluded. “She’d never make it there alive.”

All her mother said was, “We’ll see.”

Judith’s mother had for years believed in fervent prayer. She had a conviction that intercession could change the inevitable. For three days and nights, she sat by Judith’s bed and prayed an unceasing prayer. Nothing deterred her constant supplication.

As the third day was ending, Judith’s eyes began to flutter. The comma broke. She opened her eyes and looked around. “What happened to my bicycle?’ was her first question. Only as she grew older did Judith understand how extraordinary her recovery had been.

What happened? Jesus told a number of parables about persistence. The parable of the old coin illustrated a women’s constant quest without any break until the coin was found. (Luke 15:8-10)  The parable of the persistent widow demonstrated the same teaching. Don’t stop. (Luke 18:1-8).

These parables and Judith MacNutt’s experience have a lesson for anyone seeking a miracle. Don’t let your faith lag when the results are not immediate. Trust God to have a better plan.

Just remember. Miracles never cease.

THE REORDERING PRESENCE

THE REORDERING PRESENCE

Anyone interested in miracles will find Lee Strobel’s The Case for Miracles to be an important read. Strobel builds a strong case for intellectually believing in the interventions of God. He presents both sides of the case for and against supernatural experience. The “for” far out weights the “against.” Here’s an example.

Dr. Craig S. Keener, Ph.D is a well-known prodigious writer. One colleague described him as a scholar who comes along once in a century. However, that reputation did not come easy. As a boy, Keener had friends who did not adhere to the Christian faith, and a few claimed to be atheist. One day coming home from school, he was confronted by the doubters as well as believers who challenged him. As little Craig Keener finally walked home by himself, he kept thinking about their confrontations. Sitting down in his bedroom, Craig continued to argue with himself. Could their objections be true? And then he sensed “it” in the room with him.

While he couldn’t define what was happening, Craig Keener knew God’s presence was suddenly there. Real, genuine, with him. The “Presence” exceeded all questions. He tried to spill out the issues his friends had confronted him with, but suddenly Craig felt something rush through his body. Never before had he known such a sensation, but he knew God had filled his life. Craig was immediately filled with wonder and worship.

God’s greatness and awesomeness filled his life. As the encounter grew, Craig Keener realized his purpose in life. Moreso, he understood what The purpose is for everyone. All of us are to love God, to serve Him, and to worship Him. Craig put it this way. “Everything is to be built around Jesus.”

From those few moments has grown a lifetime of accomplishment. Twenty-five years later, Keener had authored twenty-one books and been a professor at Asbury Theological Seminary. But the story began one afternoon in a schoolboy’s bedroom. Craig Keener discovered skeptics can become saints.

WHAT ONE SEED CAN ACCOMPLISH

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Robert Wise explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

 WHAT ONE SEED CAN ACCOMPLISH

This past week we’ve watched the world torn apart. The rampant epidemic of death has been more than almost anyone can absorb. The shootings in Tulsa, Oklahoma occurred in the exact same office where my dearest friend had been scheduled to go for a treatment this coming week. Such a realization brings me to my knees. We need the rebirth of encouragement during these horrific times. Perhaps, this story from New Delhi, India can help.

Dorthey Faye Higbee, a pastor, was part of a ministry team that brought thousands of people to a service for healing prayer. During the service a child suffering the ravages of polio was brought forward. An “untouchable” from India’s lowest class, the team prayed over him and felt something unfolding, but the crowd rushed forward and the boy disappeared in the press of the people. They knew he had no hope if he wasn’t healed, but he had vanished. All that they found later was one small crutch leaning against the platform.

The next night a policeman came forward. The night before he had seen the prayers for the boy and had to present his son for prayer as well. Earlier he had been sent to arrest the ministry team for any infraction, but because of what he saw the officer brought his son back only for the team’s ministry. As they prayed, the child’s eye straightened and for the first time in his life, he could see clearly. The policeman grabbed the microphone to proclaim the power of God available through Jesus. The ministry continued on into the night.

As the service ended, the team noticed something unexpected. Next to the crutch left from the night before, was a second identical crutch. What had begun as one seed had sprouted into an abundance of transformation.

Let us pray that in the families of these many victims of gun shootings, that new seeds of promise can be planted even in this dark hour. We can pray for continued healing. Remember that the promises are always there. Don’t be afraid to ask.

Expect the unexpected.

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Robert Wise explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

THE EMPOWERMENT NEVER STOPS

Our TIME FOR EMPOWERMENT SERVICE last Thursday night was a powerful experience of renewal and healing. We appreciate all who were part of this gathering at Church of the Acts, Oklahoma City. These events will resume in the Fall.

Here’s another miraculous event you’ll find inspiring. Raven Nelson is a full-blood American Indian. As happened to many Indian children, he was placed in a foster home where he experienced abuse and went to the hospital a number of times. Raven had damage to his back from a bullet wound, beatings, and fights. Raven knew about pain.

In the late ‘90’s he began work in bail enforcement which is essentially being a bounty hunter. The work was dangerous and Raven was often in peril. During one of those episodes, he had to be taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Vancouver, Washington. While he was in the emergency room, Raven had a near-death experience.

As the doctors worked frantically on over him, Raven started floating up to the ceiling where he could look down on the medical personnel working over his body.

He clearly needed a blood transfusion but the hospital had no type AB on hand. His blood pressure dropped to the bottom and his heart stopped. The medical team quickly placed electric defibrillation paddles on his chest to start the heart again. Raven’s heart stopped twice.

While the doctors worked desperately, Raven was some place else. He abruptly realized that a tall man was standing on his right side. Wearing a white robe with a gold belt, he had long flowing hair and fire in his eyes.  He reached over and took his hand.

“I died for you,” he said. “Won’t you give me a chance?”

Raven could feel the man’s love penetrating his heart and knew something highly important was happening to him. The man faded and Raven drifted back into his body. His heart had started beating again. Four days later, he walked out of the hospital.

Through the emergency room experience, he had come to an experience and understanding of God’s love. Something new stirred in his heart and Raven knew he had to find that man who stood next to him in the hospital. Raven began a very personal search.

Studying the Bible, he felt the personal relationship growing. A new beginning and life had begun. The better way was unfolding. Eventually all pain vanished. Raven and his wife Vi began holding Bible studies and meetings.

The out- of- the body experience had produced a in- this- world change! Remember that the promises are always there. Don’t be afraid to ask.

Expect the unexpected.
