A VISIT IN THE NIGHT

This past week I had a conversation with Janet Wagner. We remembered and discussed an important event that happened while she was a Bible Study Fellowship teacher. Previously working as a banker, Janet had always been a healthy person who never got headaches, not until the moment she suddenly felt like her head would explode. Here’s her story.

In the middle of the night, Janet awoke in severe pain. Thinking it might be a migraine, she turned to a neurologist who immediately ordered an x-ray. Three spots showed up that looked like they could be cancer. The situation was serious!

The neurologists sent Janet to the hospital and scheduled a biopsy. He planned to drill holes in her skull to access the tumors. Beyond painful, the entire procedure frightened Janet to her core. Such a procedure could take her life. Her friends from Bible Study Fellowship gathered around and prayed. That night Janet’s husband slept on a cot next to her bed. She drifted off into a troubled sleep.

At around 4:00 in the morning, Janet felt a weight on the bed like someone had just sat down. She

“Lord, is that you?”

Janet heard the voice answer, “Yes.”

“I am really scared. “

The voice answered, “I know. I am with you to the end of time. You will not have the biopsy tomorrow.”

“Are you sure?” Janet asked. “Yes,” the voice answered and then He was gone.

The next morning at 8:30 the doctor came in. “I’ve changed my mind,” he said. “We’re not going to do the biopsy after all. We’ll give you some steroids and wait awhile.” Janet went home!

After thirty days, the doctor called her back for another MRI. She was to be rolled into an extremely tight enclosure that felt like a coffin. Once again, fear gripped Janet and she silently prayed for help. Abruptly a figure appeared beside her. She looked again. Taller than Janet expected, she stared at the long black hair hanging down to his shoulders. With piercing blue eyes, he had on a royal blue linen robe with gold trim. Janet knew the figure was Jesus.

“I’m with you. Don’t be afraid.” And then he was gone.

Janet showed me the x-rays from before and thirty days later. The three tumors had simply disappeared. She told the doctor a miracle had occurred. He had no better explanation.

Several years later, when I talked to Janet this week, she affirmed all that happened. Her faith was stronger than ever! Janet Wagner offers you encouragement in your journey. Just remember. Expect the unexpected.

 WHAT ONE SEED CAN ACCOMPLISH

This past week we’ve watched the world torn apart. The rampant epidemic of death has been more than almost anyone can absorb. The shootings in Tulsa, Oklahoma occurred in the exact same office where my dearest friend had been scheduled to go for a treatment this coming week. Such a realization brings me to my knees. We need the rebirth of encouragement during these horrific times. Perhaps, this story from New Delhi, India can help.

Dorthey Faye Higbee, a pastor, was part of a ministry team that brought thousands of people to a service for healing prayer. During the service a child suffering the ravages of polio was brought forward. An “untouchable” from India’s lowest class, the team prayed over him and felt something unfolding, but the crowd rushed forward and the boy disappeared in the press of the people. They knew he had no hope if he wasn’t healed, but he had vanished. All that they found later was one small crutch leaning against the platform.

The next night a policeman came forward. The night before he had seen the prayers for the boy and had to present his son for prayer as well. Earlier he had been sent to arrest the ministry team for any infraction, but because of what he saw the officer brought his son back only for the team’s ministry. As they prayed, the child’s eye straightened and for the first time in his life, he could see clearly. The policeman grabbed the microphone to proclaim the power of God available through Jesus. The ministry continued on into the night.

As the service ended, the team noticed something unexpected. Next to the crutch left from the night before, was a second identical crutch. What had begun as one seed had sprouted into an abundance of transformation.

Let us pray that in the families of these many victims of gun shootings, that new seeds of promise can be planted even in this dark hour. We can pray for continued healing. Remember that the promises are always there. Don’t be afraid to ask.

 WHEN THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENS

Sometimes I hesitate to report what I’ve discovered because it would seem too far out for the average person immersed in secularism… or even many church goers. Nevertheless, I’ve found these extraordinary events happen. Here’s an example.

Living Faith Church in Spokane, Washington had a motorcycle club. The Pastor often led the way and was part of the club. He had just turned on Elk-Chatroy Road with the riders following him. When he glanced in his rearview mirror, he saw the last motorcycle go flying off the road. Pastor Richardson and the club ran down the slope and found Doug Dureheim under a pile of barbed wire bleeding. He had broken bones with horrible gashes on his legs and arms.

Doug Dureheim wasn’t moving. There was no pulse and his eyes were blank. Choked with tears, one of the bikers mumbled, “He’s dead.”

Pastor Richardson felt anger surge through his body. “This will not end like this. It will not!”

The Pastor called on everyone to start praying. Reaching down, he put his hand on Doug’s body. In a loud voice, he commanded Doug to live in the name of Jesus.

Abruptly, Doug pitched forward and groaned. He opened his eyes. The group jumped back in shock. After a moment, they started clapping and cheering.

A nurse had seen Doug go flying off the road. She stopped and came back to help. Shortly an ambulance arrived. The crew initially doubted if Doug could still be alive. Cutting the barbed wire loose from his body, they prepared to haul him to the hospital.

One of the attendants leaned over to the Pastor and said, “This is a miracle, sir. There’s no logical reason why this man should be alive. This is one I can’t explain.”

The miracle was the only explanation possible.

Remember that the promises are always there. Don’t be afraid to ask.

Expect the unexpected.

THE EMPOWERMENT NEVER STOPS

Our TIME FOR EMPOWERMENT SERVICE last Thursday night was a powerful experience of renewal and healing. We appreciate all who were part of this gathering at Church of the Acts, Oklahoma City. These events will resume in the Fall.

Here’s another miraculous event you’ll find inspiring. Raven Nelson is a full-blood American Indian. As happened to many Indian children, he was placed in a foster home where he experienced abuse and went to the hospital a number of times. Raven had damage to his back from a bullet wound, beatings, and fights. Raven knew about pain.

In the late ‘90’s he began work in bail enforcement which is essentially being a bounty hunter. The work was dangerous and Raven was often in peril. During one of those episodes, he had to be taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Vancouver, Washington. While he was in the emergency room, Raven had a near-death experience.

As the doctors worked frantically on over him, Raven started floating up to the ceiling where he could look down on the medical personnel working over his body.

He clearly needed a blood transfusion but the hospital had no type AB on hand. His blood pressure dropped to the bottom and his heart stopped. The medical team quickly placed electric defibrillation paddles on his chest to start the heart again. Raven’s heart stopped twice.

While the doctors worked desperately, Raven was some place else. He abruptly realized that a tall man was standing on his right side. Wearing a white robe with a gold belt, he had long flowing hair and fire in his eyes.  He reached over and took his hand.

“I died for you,” he said. “Won’t you give me a chance?”

Raven could feel the man’s love penetrating his heart and knew something highly important was happening to him. The man faded and Raven drifted back into his body. His heart had started beating again. Four days later, he walked out of the hospital.

Through the emergency room experience, he had come to an experience and understanding of God’s love. Something new stirred in his heart and Raven knew he had to find that man who stood next to him in the hospital. Raven began a very personal search.

Studying the Bible, he felt the personal relationship growing. A new beginning and life had begun. The better way was unfolding. Eventually all pain vanished. Raven and his wife Vi began holding Bible studies and meetings.

The out- of- the body experience had produced a in- this- world change! Remember that the promises are always there. Don’t be afraid to ask.

A SECOND TOUCH

Last week, I shared Sharon Morrison’s story of a miraculous healing of her heart condition. Let’s follow Sharon’s story a bit further. With three daughters, she and her husband lived in Belfast, Ireland where they have been married for over 30 years. Following her healing experiences, Sharon became a part of Times of Refreshing Ministries. Even to this day, she continues to pray for an outpouring of God’s power on her country.

Here’s what happened to Sharon four years after heart’s irregular and rapid heart rate were healed of a condition that could have taken her life. Sharon took another plunge into a dangerous problem.

Going up the metal steps in the back of the building where she worked, she slipped and fell. Her fractured hand had to be put in a cast. She expected everything to be normal, but when the cast was removed the doctor found she needed a special splint. Her damaged tendons had not healed. More was needed.      

After two weeks of steroid injections, she was far from well. Finally, the doctor prescribed an operation. She had synotendonitous.

Through the Summer and into the Fall, Sharon struggled with pain. She finally became desperate for a divine intervention. At that point, Sharon learned that the minister who had first brought healing to her heart was going to return to her area. Dr. Bruce Allen was going to be in Belfast. Sharon had a sense that this was where she needed to go.

During the conference, Dr. Allen recognized Sharon’s struggle. He asked his wife to put her hand on Sharon’s damaged hand. As the wife prayed for her condition, Sharon felt a flow of energy surge through her hand. She could feel her fingers loosen and, in a few minutes, Sharon was completely healed. No pain, no stiffness, no weakness. Gone.

Sometimes results come only because we pray. Sometimes we need a setting where healings often occur. Sometimes we need a person gifted with a healing touch. All are different, but equal expressions of the Holy Spirit.

The point? The promise is always there. Don’t be afraid to ask for it.

THE TOUCH OF AN ANGEL

Regardless of their personal beliefs and convictions, a vast majority of American believe in angels. Eight in ten citizens frankly state they are convinced angels are there. In a secular age, that number refutes the statisticians! Here’s a fascinating example of why people cling to the idea.

On Christmas Day 2000, Sharon Morrison felt her heart start pounding rapidly. Heart palpitations continued for two hours. Sharon went to her doctor in Belfast, Ireland who advised her to go to the hospital. She hesitated but when the symptoms occurred at work, Sharon was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. She was diagnosed with rapid heartbeat, a dangerous condition.

Turning to a church for prayer, she heard Dr. Bruce Allen speaking about angels. As he concluded describing the ministry of angels, Dr. Allen wanted to pray for anyone who wished to have the ability to see an angel. Sharon went forward for prayer with a number of others.

When Dr. Allen came to her, he said, “Oh, you’ve already started to see angels. Lord, enlarge her vision to see more.”

Sharon returned to her pew and reflected on what had been prayed. She knew more was needed. Going pack, she asked Bruce Allen to pray for her heart. Sharon didn’t want a fixed heart; she wanted a new heart.

As the minister prayed, Sharon caught movement out of the corner of her eye. She realized an angel really was appearing to her. The angel moved forward with something cupped in his hands.  Dressed in a white robe with a golden sash around the waist, Sharon saw his hands extended. He was holding a new heart!

With her eyes tightly closed, Sharon tried to concentrate on what was going to happen. The angel put his hands on her chest, she felt her heart skip a beat and then return to normal rhythm.

Dr. Allen murmured, “Oh! The angel is fixing something.”

Sharon could only nod, unable to speak. She knelt there with her eyes closed.

When she returned to her seat, Sharon knew something wonderful had happened. Surprisingly enough, the next day was her birthday. When she woke up the next morning  and prayed, the voice of the Holy Spirit told Sharon she was healed. She felt a wonderful sense of God’s presence hovering around her.

When Sharon Morrison returned to the hospital for a check-up, all the tests came back normal. She has not experienced any symptoms since.

Is it possible that you’ve overlooked the obvious? Could a guardian angel have been working in your life and you missed the clues? Often, we first experience the angelic in our thoughts. Unexpected ideas or thoughts pop-up and we wonder where that came from. Next time you have such a moment, stop and ask if an angel gave you the nudge. Inquire if you can continue the conversation. You might be surprised by what you discover.

 WHEN LIFE ENDS—AND BEGINS AGAIN

I have been surprised by the number of people I have met who had “out-of-the-body” experiences  (NDE) as they were dying. When they came back and became conscious again, their reports always left me intrigued. A month ago, I shared Ron Carte’s journey after he had a heart attack and crashed into a tree. This week I interviewed him for a coming YouTube video that you will want to see. Just look for Miracles Never Cease by Robert Wise.

One of the fascinating aspects of an NDE event is the extremely accurate memory that these persons had of what they saw from the other side or often the top of the room. One woman having an out of the body experience saw a red label on the hidden side of a ceiling fan. The nurses were amazed as no one had discovered that red tab before. The uncanny but precise description of what they saw when out of the body is difficult to repute.

Here’s a similar experience of a man who been an atheist.

Ian McCormack was scuba diving near the cost of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean when he was stung four times by Jelly Fish. Sometimes called the most venomous creature in the world, one bite can cause the cardiovascular system to collapse with death in two to three minutes. McCormack was bitten four times.

As he was dying, Ian saw a vision of his mother telling him to call out to God for help. Now in utter darkness, he was terrified and prayed for God to forgive his sins. A bright light suddenly descended on him, drawing him out of the darkness.  The light was unspeakably bright as if it was the center of the universe. Nevertheless, Ian could look into the brilliant blaze.

The Presence in the light knew everything about him, making him feel terribly ashamed. However, rather than judgement, he felt what he described as ‘pure, unadulterated, clean, uninhibited, undeserved love.” In the middle of the light, he saw a man in a dazzling white robe holding out his arms to Ian. After he returned to physical life, Ian knew he had been in the presence of Almighty God.

Ian McCormack’s experience is another example of touching the transcendent dimension that is always around us. On this Easter Weekend, we are reminded of the ultimate victory over death that laid the foundation for all of these experiences. Certainly offers us hope!
