Once You been touched then….

I’ve noticed that one miraculous touch leads to another. People who have received a healing experience often are able to pass on healing to someone else in need.  The miraculous begets the miraculous!

Robert Shelton (name is anonymous for privacy sake) made such a discovery. During a farming accident, Robert was caught in a machine that nearly ripped off his arm. The damage to the muscles was extensive, but most of the nerves and major blood vessels stayed intact. Robert was rushed to the hospital with dirt, stones, and debris lodged in his arm. Just getting the rubble out was a major problem. A skilled surgeon finally sewed the arm together.

A Christian, Robert Shelton prayed fervently. Robert’s devout parents prayed constantly. Later. he realized how vital their prayer support had been. Robert knew that prayer had been the key factor in saving his arm, a miraculous event in itself!

As time passed Robert Shelton was increasingly aware that the hand of God had sustained his arm. Robert continued to grow in his faith and eventually had a son.

Little Mark contracted an illness that resulted in a high fever. The situation became serious and Robert really worried about his son.  On an early winter night Robert stood over Mark and knew his boy had a frighteningly high temperature. Robert began praying to Jesus for help. At that moment something started to happen.

Robert felt energy passing from him to his son. He distinctly remembered an energy of light passing through him into Mark. The energy was being released from his arm into Mark.

The next morning the fever and illness were gone. Like a chain reaction, the results of one miracle were passed on to another. Don’t be hesitant about “sharing” your healing and renewal with someone in need. Remember one good thing begets another.

And also remember miracles never cease!

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE OTHER SIDE? 

This past Friday I attended an extraordinary dedication of the shrine to the first martyr of the American Roman Catholic Church. I had just finished writing a book on the life of Father Stanley Rother who was martyred defending the Christian faith in Guatemala. For Father Rother to be officially recognized as a Saint, there must be a miracle resulting from the martyr’s intervention. Since I had been writing about similar “near-death” type happenings and was writing about Fr. Rother, although a Protestant, I wondered about what had happened after this important person had crossed the threshold of eternity.

Just as I was finishing writing the book The Making of a Martyr, I got a phone call from the person editing my manuscript. She told me about a story that appeared on a Tulsa television station and  in The Daily Oklahoman July 27, 2022. Here’s a reproduction of part of that publication.

Johnny Workman believes he’s here today because he got help from beyond. “I felt something kind of hit me in the back and when I turned, I got trapped,” he explains. Trapped by a run-away 30,000-pound asphalt roller. The weight of two elephants pinned him against the roller, crushing him. 

“I saw myself in the mirror, I saw myself changing colors and then I blacked out,” he says. 

Workman suffered 27 fractures to his chest alone. While in a medically induced coma, his family placed a medal of Blessed Stanley Rother on Workman’s chest and prayed for the intersession of the Priest who grew up in Okarche, Oklahoma. 

“I believe that’s when it happened—the miracle,’ says Workman. Workman remains unwavering in the vision he experienced while unconscious. “He [Fr. Stanley Rother] picked me up and we were walking together- Mother Mary on one side and he was on the other. Stanley Rother grabbed me by the hand, and we were walking. [I] don’t know if we were going to heaven.”

Suddenly, Johnny Workman woke up in a hospital. The doctors were flabbergasted.  

Workman describes his unexpected recovery has nothing short of miraculous. “Doctors nurses and staff would tell me almost every day I was lucky to be alive.” 

A letter of his account has been delivered to the Oklahoma City Archdiocese describing his now healed body as the result of more than good luck. 

“Maybe it’s a miracle in the churches- but I know with 100% fact that it was a miracle in my eyes,” says Workman. 

Most Protestants generally wouldn’t know what to say about this kind of story. Roman Catholics and the Orthodox Churches would have no problem accepting it. Wherever you are, it’s an event that challenges your thoughts. Don’t forget that many churches say the Apostles Creed every Sunday affirming “we believe in the communion of the saints.”

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE? 

Several years ago, I wrote CROSSING THE THRESHOLD OF ETERNITY. The book grew out of my interviews with people who had near death experiences. Cindi Pursley, my neighbor in the Colorado Rockies, was a hospice nurse and shared with me some of her observations as people were dying. The accounts quickened my interest and led to fascinating discoveries that are in my book.

What happens at the moment of death?

Recently, I was in a class on the Talmud (the authority on Jewish practice developed from the Torah, the first five books of the Old Testament) when I noticed the person sitting next to me had on a sweat shirt indicating she worked for a hospice. In the ensuing conversation, she related what happened as she watched the moment when a person passed away. Her eyes widened in amazement.

While this blog doesn’t reflect my usual reports on miracles, it can help us comprehend the importance of Eternity, the world beyond. Insight into transcendence better equips us to grasp how the power of God breaks into our world.

Anyone who has observed the moment of death has seen the radical change in the person’s appearance. Something far more significant than a heart stopping occurs. Often, the  change certainly suggests someone leaving their body behind.

As my friend and I were talking a few days ago, she described how she had always wondered how the soul might leave the body. Orah (Hebrew name for anonymity sake) had been intrigued by what might happen. As the person she was working with died, Orah saw a spark of light leap from the body and disappear into the night. Orah was overwhelmed!

Could you see such an event happen? Possibly more often than you might imagine. YouTube now carries a series of pictures and discussions of this same phenomena. Under the heading “Actual Pictures of the Soul Leaving the body” or “What happens at the time of death,” you can see images that will surprise you and may shock some readers. I believe you will find the pictures to be significant. Trick photography? It’s your call but don’t make a quick decision.

Interestingly enough, physician Duncan MacDougall did an experiment with six patients who were dying. He postulated that the soul must weigh something. Dr. MacDougall discovered that after a patient had immediately died, he lost 21 grams. While not scientifically verified, the 21 gram experiment fits the pattern that the “essence” of the person traveled on.

My point? Regardless of what current secular society might think, life and death remain in the hands of God. Our ability to relate to our heavenly Father remains the most significant task of our life… and life does go on. We need to get ready for the future … today.

And remember miracles never cease!

SOME TIMES—IT TAKES TIME

Recently while going through by files, I ran across a letter from Vicki Leonard in Sacramento, California. Vicki had been part of a mission I brought to Christ Community Church several decades ago. At the time she had been struggling with curvature of the spine and deterioration of the muscles in her legs. The result was on-going back pain.

Vicki came forward so the team could pray for her. After the intercessions, I asked Vicki if she felt anything. Even though she hesitantly said, “I don’t know,” she had felt warmth surge through her body with the love being so strong during the service. She called it a ‘warm glow.’ When Vicki returned to her seat, she realized that the pain on one side of her back was gone and did not return.

When Vicki was quite small, she had an extremely serious problem that the prayers of her parents and friends had been significant in returning Vicki to normal health and the ability to walk. She knew healing was possible. However, she struggled with understanding what had occurred back then. Vicki wasn’t sure how to understand the work of the Holy Spirit.

The night at Christ Community Church I talked about who the Holy Spirit is and how this presence of God often works. Following the talk, what happened when Vicki came and knelt in prayer?

The clouds in her thinking had disappeared. The mystery became faith. When she came forward, Vicki was ready to be open to a deeper work of the Holy Spirit. She was prepared to receive what God had for her.

As I read her letter, I realized again how often confusion or misinformation can disrupt the blessing that God is sending to people in need. Moreover, I was reminded of how the intervention of God can take time and work in steps that build on each other. Some times the healing can take hours or days to be completed. Finally, I am reminded of the difference the results can make when someone else prays for us. A team of several people can move a mountain! Vickie reminds us to be patient and be open to what our heavenly Father wants to give us.         

And remember miracles never cease!
