MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

MIRACLES CAN HIDE UNEXPECTELY IN …

Sometimes the miraculous comes concealed in circumstances.

Possibly you discovered this story on the Mormon Tabernacle Christmas television program. If not, it’s you’ll want to know about it. We are reminded how divine interventions can come through our benevolent actions.

In December 1938, a teacher at Westminster School in London asked Nicholas Winston to come immediately to Czechoslovakia. A recently forced Jewish refugee camp filled to capacity was facing a desperate situation. War with Germany appeared imminent and the refugees were abandoned. Violence against Jews during the Kristallnacht riots was an ominous specter of what was come. The parents of these Jewish children were terrified for what could happen to the little ones.

When Nicholas Winton explored the deplorable circumstances, he immediately began working to figure out how to get the children out of the country. Using the name of the British Committee for Refugees, he opened an office in Prague. As the word spread, thousands of parents line up seeking safe haven for their children. He took the family names and the names of the children.

Nicholas returned to London and began raising funds for the children to escape. He also had to find families who would care for the children. His job at the Stock Exchange forced Nicholas to work in the late afternoon and evenings. The necessary money began to come in.

On March 1, 1939 an airplane left Prague bringing the first children out. The next day the Nazis over ran the country. Winton kept working and seven transports rolled out of Prague with children. At the train station in London, foster parents waited to pick up the children. The last kindertrain left Prague on August 2, l939. In September the Nazi war began and the effort ended.

Nicholas Winton never mentioned or talked about his effort. In 1988, his wife Grete found a scrapbook in their attic. Carefully recorded in handwriting were the names of all the children he had helped escape.

“What’s this all about?” Grete asked. “Why didn’t you tell me what you had done?”

Nicholas shrugged. “Oh, I just did what had to be done.” And he walked away.

And what had he done? His effort saved 669 children. Their offspring grew to nearly 6,000… just doing what needed to be done.

A miracle? Indeed. In this season when we celebrate a poor baby born in a straw filled manage, we must remember how significant it can be to reach out to the least of these. When we do a small kindness, a miracle could be hidden inside. Thank you Nicolas Winton for doing the same.

My latest book has just now been released. You’ll find it fascinating!

The almost unknown account of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s involvement in a number of attempts to assassinate Adolph Hitler remains one of the extraordinary stories of World War II. A towering theologian and patriot, Bonhoeffer did not retreat from joining the fight to stop the Nazis. In these pages you will discover an explosive adventure that remains an ultimate witness to the truth.

After his capture, his fiancé Maria von Wedemeyer, never gave up attempting to find him and stand with him. In later years, Maria was to become the leading scientist with the Remington Rand Corporation, pioneering the way for the modern computer.
My interview with Bonhoeffer’s godson, Christop Von Dohnanyi, sheds more light on who Bonhoeffer was and what he accomplished. You will find this thoroughly researched though novelized story of Bonhoeffer’s involvement in WWII to be gripping and compelling.

The book is available in kindle and paperback on Amazon.
