MIRACLES NEVER CEASE
Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE
The most asked and the most unanswered question through the centuries is, “What happens when we die?” The resurrection of Jesus Christ assured us that death has been defeated, but what follows? What might be expected after our own death? From listening to many, many people who had near-death experiences, I found dimensions of dying appear to be predictable.
People who were injured in an accident or had a problem that required medical attention often found that as the staff worked on them, they began to float out of their bodies and up to the ceiling. They looked down on the medical procedure occurring on their own bodies while observing from above. We might consider this to be Step One.
Next people who were dying often report their entire life appeared before them like a movie. They saw and reexperienced what had happened during the previous years. They often felt the emotion they had caused others to feel whether good and bad. Like watching a continuous re-run, they experienced their entire existence all over again. Step Two.
As persons drifted away from their bodies, they lost the sensation of pain. Peace enveloped them. No matter how nightmarish their struggle had been, their agony simply vanished. People abruptly had a heightened sense of awareness with many people reporting a new depth of peace even though their bodies were dead. Step Three.
While this does not seem to be true for everyone, many speak of going down a long tunnel while hearing heavenly music like nothing they ever heard before. The tunnel often seemed to radiate love while they traveled at an incredible speed while feeling like they were standing still. At the end of the tunnel, a brilliant light appeared to be waiting for them. When they reach the end, they knew they had come to their final destiny. Step Four.
The people who come back from a near death experience usually made a decision to return to their life. Often, they were given a choice of whether to stay or return. In some cases, they were told it was not their time yet. They knew there was a boundary between heaven and this world. If they crossed the line, they couldn’t return to their previous life. They made a decision to come back. Step Five.
One of the amazing dimensions of the near-death experience is meeting family and loved ones who have gone on before. Grandparents are often waiting with open arms. Sometimes they met relatives that they never knew even existed. The promise of reunions remained one of the most meaningful experiences they had. Step Six.
My description of steps doesn’t mean encounters happen in these exact ways nor that this exhausts all that people underwent. My intent is to help you consider the nature of what is ahead. This path has already been prepared by Jesus Christ. Faith allows you to put all dread and fear aside. The best is yet to be!
