MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D. and the author of 36 books, Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

MIRACLE ON THE BATTLEFIELD

In these politically troubled times, it is helpful to remember that miracles are a reflection of the purposes and promises of God. All the promises of God are yes and “so-be-it.” They stand forever even if it takes a millennium to fulfill. Even with the current war and turmoil, the nation of Israel is an enduring example of that fact.

In Israel’s 1967 Yom Kippur War, the Israelis were completely caught off-guard. The Syrian Army came pouring in from the Golan Heights and completely outnumbered the Israels. The battle proved to be ugly and bloody. The situation appeared to be fatal for Israel. If the enemy tanks prevailed, the Jews would be driven into the ocean. Only a handful of Israeli military tanks stood against a multitude of Syrian armor ready to wipe them out.

David Yamean called on the armored tanks around him to withstand the onslaught. As commander of the Unit, he called for them to charge. Almost no one moved. They knew it would be suicide.  Nevertheless, Commander Yamean charged forward with only a few following him.  Remembering Auschwitz and the death camps, they would die before surrendering. The small unit of tanks prepared to fight to the finish. As the treads of the wheels rumbled forward, they prayed.

For absolutely no military reason, the Syrian tanks stopped. After a pause, they turned and retreated. David Yamean and the few tanks around him halted, they opened their hatches and couldn’t believe their eyes. The obvious defeat had turned into a stunning victory.

            What happened?

At 3:00 in the night Washington, D.C. time, Golda Meier called President Richard Nixon, work him up, and told him the Jewish people were about to be wiped out unless America responded.

Years before Nixon’s mother had told Richard that the Jewish people had a special place in God’s plan for the world. He should always be mindful of them. He was.

Nixon immediately called the Pentagon and told them to prepare to stand behind the Jewish people and to let Syria know they were coming. Consequently, the Syrian tanks were commanded to retreat. Would the Jews have been slaughtered without that withdrawal? No question about it.

Does God keep His promises? The prophet Daniel predicted in 1,335 years the Jews would be blessed. Haggai added that the blessing would come on the 24th day of the 9th month of the year. When one adds up those numbers, they come out on December 9, 1917. On that day the Mayor of Jerusalem gave the keys of the city of Jerusalem to the British General that began the eventual  recovery of the city by the Jews.

A miracle? Certainly. Just remember your personal story is of equal interest to your heavenly Father. Claim one of His promises and become part of the history of the miraculous. You are of equal importance to God

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE

WHAT HAPPENES WHEN YOU DIE

PART III

The idea that we can know something of what happens after we die would grab anyone’s imagination. Everyone wants an answer to that question. In our last two communiques, we’ve been exposing answers from people who were “there” and returned.  I have talked with people who had that experience and listened to what they discovered. Their answers amazed me and gave new insight. Here are two more encounters that will inspire you.

Laurie Smith (name changed for anonymity sake) had been rafting when she was swept into the rapids. The current pulled her under where she was trapped and couldn’t get back to the surface. As water started filling her lungs, Laurie knew she was dying. Everything went black and then suddenly became white as she was hurled down a long tunnel. At the end, Laurie could see a room made of white clouds and yet it seemed in some unexplained way to be solid although it wasn’t. Three beings made of shimmering crystal stood there with light shining through them. These  creatures spoke to Laurie but frightened her. At that moment, they changed into angels and pure light of many shades of color shone through them. As Laurie watched, she saw light shine through them in brilliant designs. The angels began communicating with her telepathically. Angelic beings took her to a beautiful field with magnificent music. Awesome peacefulness settled in.

And then another Kayaker rescued her from a watery grave. She had been to the beyond and came back.

While the chief engineer on an underwater rescue team, Dave Bennet was swept into the ocean. He knew what happened with oxygen deprivation and realised he was dying, but as the blackness settled in, he drifted into an experience like nothing he had known before. An omnipresent being fell in with him as the black began to turn into light. Dave drifted toward the brightness. He could feel waves upon waves of love surrounding him and surrounding him with a warm embrace. He said, “It was the most amazing feeling I ever had, and it felt as if this love was actually permeating my being, and transforming me into a being of light.”

As Dave Bennet traveled toward the light, he met his family, not like the one on earth, but a ‘soul family.’ They took him back through his life, but with different points of view. Finally, he was sent him back to life with renewed purpose. He came back to the surface of the ocean after being fully submerged for 18 minutes.

These experiences are further confirmation of Jesus promise, “I have come that you might have life, and life more abundantly. (John 11:25). You don’t have to live with a fear of death. Rather than a negation of life, death is the door we enter on our way to abundance. Jeus has prepared everything for us.

WHAT HAPPENES WHEN YOU DIE

PART II

The previous blog addressed the most asked and the most unanswered question through the centuries. What happens when we die? The resurrection of Jesus Christ assured us that death has been defeated, but what follows? What might be expected after our own death?  Last time I shared what people with near-death experiences saw. This time I investigate what happened to the person.

Orthopedic surgeon Tony Cicoria was talking on the phone and had just hung up when a blue flash shot out of the receiver. He felt his body flying backward and a confusing sense of going forward. When he looked back, his body was on the ground. “I’m dead,” he thought. A woman neaaarby dropped down and immediately began performing CPR. Suddenly, Dr. Cicoria was surrounded by a bluish-white light with an enormous sense of peace and well-being. He felt himself accelerating upward. At that moment, Dr. Tony Cicoria returned to his body. He thought this is the most glorious feeling I’ve ever had.

The book and film Miracles from Heaven relates what happened to Annabel Bean. Struck with two life-threatening digestive disorders that made her want to give up her life, she was sitting on a big branch 30-feet off the ground when it snapped. She fell into a hallow at the base of the tree and was trapped for six hours.  During this time, Annabel went to heaven. She remembers it as being very bright. “I sat on Jesus’ lap,” she said. “He told me the firefighters will get you out and there will be nothing wrong with you.” Annabel wanted to stay with him in heaven, but was told there were other plans ahead she must be involved in. When the firemen finally got her out of the tree, Annabel’s critical illness was gone.

Fifty-year-old Tessa Romero had just dropped her children off at school when she suddenly had heart failure. For 24 minutes there was no heartbeat. Tessas felt herself leaving her body and looking down on herself. At the same time, she never felt more alive and conscious and was yet invisible to those working around her. Tessa felt an overwhelming sense of peace and the cessation of all physical and emotional pain. In her book 24 Minutes on the Other Side: Living Without Fear of Death, Terra Romero describes how her perspective on life changed and all fear of death disappeared. Her by-word became hope.

You don’t have to die to experience what these people now know as a fact. Jesus of Nazareth promised, “I have come to give you life and life more abundantly.” (John 3) This path has already been prepared by Jesus Christ. Faith allows you to put all dread and fear aside. The best is yet to be!

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE

Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE

The most asked and the most unanswered question through the centuries is, “What happens when we die?” The resurrection of Jesus Christ assured us that death has been defeated, but what follows? What might be expected after our own death? From listening to many, many people who had near-death experiences, I found dimensions of dying appear to be predictable.

People who were injured in an accident or had a problem that required medical attention often found that as the staff worked on them, they began to float out of their bodies and up to the ceiling. They looked down on the medical procedure occurring on their own bodies while observing from above. We might consider this to be Step One.

Next people who were dying often report their entire life appeared before them like a movie. They saw and reexperienced what had happened during the previous years. They often felt the emotion they had caused others to feel whether good and bad. Like watching a continuous re-run, they experienced their entire existence all over again. Step Two.

As persons drifted away from their bodies, they lost the sensation of pain. Peace enveloped them. No matter how nightmarish their struggle had been, their agony simply vanished.  People abruptly had a heightened sense of awareness with many people reporting a  new depth of peace even though their bodies were dead. Step Three.

While this does not seem to be true for everyone, many speak of going down a long tunnel while hearing heavenly music like nothing they ever heard before. The tunnel often seemed to radiate love  while they traveled at an incredible speed while feeling like they were standing still. At the end of the tunnel, a brilliant light appeared to be waiting for them. When they reach the end, they knew they had come to their final destiny. Step Four.

The people who come back from a near death experience usually made a decision to return to their life. Often, they were given a choice of whether to stay or return. In some cases, they were told it was not their time yet. They knew there was a boundary between heaven and this world. If they crossed the line, they couldn’t return to their previous life. They made a decision to come back. Step Five.

One of the amazing dimensions of the near-death experience is meeting family and loved ones who have gone on before. Grandparents are often waiting with open arms. Sometimes they met relatives that they never knew even existed. The  promise of reunions remained one of the most meaningful experiences they had. Step Six.

My description of steps doesn’t mean encounters happen in these exact ways nor that this exhausts all that people underwent. My intent is to help you consider  the nature of what is ahead. This path has already been prepared by Jesus Christ. Faith allows you to put all dread and fear aside. The best is yet to be!

WHEN EASTER HAPPENED A SECOND TIME

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE

Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D.  explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

WHEN EASTER HAPPENED A SECOND TIME

Easter celebrates the miracle of life. What happened in Jerusalem in 33 A.D. hasn’t stopped. The impact continues today and into eternity. Here’s  an example.

The Korean church leader Sung Ryong Kwak had been developing a ministry team that might propel their 700-member church to even greater heights. Deaconess Lee was one of the prime leaders working in team ministry. When the call from the hospital came, everyone was shocked. Lee had been found in her room with carbon monoxide poisoning  and rushed to the hospital. The report was that her condition was serious.

Sung Kwak rushed to the small hospital in their village. A group had already gathered around the emergency room. The report was that the medical team was preparing to administer an electrical jump start to her heart. The defibrillator might restart the natural rhythm of Lee’s heart. Through the glass window, Sung could see the doctor’s working feverishly to shock the deaconess back to life but nothing seemed to be happening. He could see that the procedure wasn’t working.

The doctors finally emerged shaking their heads. They reported, “The patient is dead.”

Sung Ryong Kwak retreated to a quiet corner to be alone and pray. He cried out, “Please give life to this lady once more. … Lord, we need a miracle.”

A passage of scripture flashed through his mind. “Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he die, He shall live.’” Sung profoundly believed this truth and claimed the promise.

An intern who heard the prayer was so impressed by the plea that he persuaded the doctors to shock Lee one more time. To their dismay, her heart responded and she was alive. Lee had been resurrected.

However, the doctor warned she would be severely mentally handicapped by the carbon monoxide poisoning.  Lee was sixty-years old and brain damage was a virtual certainty. Maybe her revival wasn’t so positive after all.

Three days later, Sung was working in the church when the door opened. Deaconess Lee walked in. She was in perfect health; physically and mentally. Lee, too, had indeed been resurrected. Easter had come again.

We do well to remember that death has been defeated and life reaches into tomorrow. No circumstance can impede that journey. That’s the meaning of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is for today and tomorrow.

And remember that miracle never ceases.

PAIN TURNED INTO PROMISE

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Church with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

PAIN TURNED INTO PROMISE

Probably few people have affected life in the 20th century more than C.S. Lewis. With 30 books read worldwide, Lewis became one of the most significant proponents of the Christian faith. A professor at Oxford University in England, his clear-cut but basic explanations of truth touched multitudes seeking answers to the meaning of life. In a symbolic sense, his life was a miracle.

Over the years, the story of his relationship with Helen Joy Grisham and their marriage surfaced. The Jewish born Christian author from America became the joy of C.S. Lewis’ life (He preferred to be called Jack rather than C.S.). The movie Shadowlands chronicled their deep love for each other and Jack’s struggle with grief. (You can get the video of Shadowlands and will be inspired)

The movie only features Joy Grisham’s son Douglas. Actually, her other son David was a paranoid violent schizophrenic and was left out of the movie to avoid distraction. However, Douglas story is significant and a witness by itself. Recently, I heard Douglas Grisham reflect on his relationship with Jack and that is a story unto itself.

Joy Grisham had broken her leg, revealing a terminal cancer eating the femur bone away. The case was hopeless and she was given weeks or months at best. Nine-year-old Douglas was faced with the loss of his mother and life in a foreign land. Everything in his world was about to disappear. He was devastated.

Douglas walked down to Holy Trinity Church to pour out his grief. As he reached the entry gate something happened. He seemed to have crossed from one reality to another. His prayerful pleas had propelled him into another reality. To this day, he cannot find words to adequately describe what happened, but he knew he had come face to face with another world of angels and the Holy Spirit. Douglas walked into the church and fell on his knees.

A voice spoke. “Can you live without your mother?” Douglas thought for a moment and answered. “No, I don’t think I can.”  The voice said, “Then it is fixed.” Divine peace settled over Douglas. He got up and walked home with all fear and anxiety gone.

That very afternoon Joy Grisham Lewis’ cancer went into remission, and she lived on into other years. A miracle indeed.

Seems that the Holy Spirit responds best to the grief and anguish of a hurting heart. No matter the situation, He promised to always be there …and is!

            Remember: miracles never cease.

WHEN THE DARKNESS DIED

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE

Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.

WHEN THE DARKNESS DIED

Easter is the celebration of the amazing transforming miracle of light. The Light has shined into the darkness and the darkness has never overcome it. On Easter we remember how the darkness of death was dispelled.

No matter where you look in the world, you will find cemeteries. At the edge of every town, there is a graveyard and everyone knows that’s where they will eventually reside. We try to avoid the fact, but in the moments when we are most lucid, we recognize the inevitable. One day we will be there.

            And then Easter morning comes.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead proclaims that Light has shined into the darkness of the grave and the darkness has not over come it. Easter proclaims that every tomb is now filled with Light and the darkness cannot halt the penetrating glow.

            That’s the miracle of Easter.

Our worst fear has been conquered. Death has no power over us. Every dark night will give way to a new day of promise. When church choirs sing, “Christ the Lord is risen today,” they are singing to the past, the present, and the future, that no amount of darkness will ever stop the Light.

That is the greatest miracle of all.

            And that miracle never ceases.
