SHE DIDN’T BELIEVE UNTIL …

            Context can certainly make the difference. Many, many people have no expectation that God cares. Once they cross that line, often even to their surprise, things happen. Let’s add another element. Sometimes divine interventions take time. We must remember that no response is a divine delay for reasons that often we cannot grasp. Don’t doubt when you have to wait. Cassaundra Siegersma’s experience is an example.

            Cassundra had grown up with some erroneous ideas about how the Holy Spirit intervenes. Having been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, she struggled with sleep apnea, asthma, and fibromyalgia. If that wasn’t enough, two herniated disks resulted in two back surgeries. These problems caused her to sleep all day and not at night. Trying to make ends meet, her husband worked three jobs to pay for Cassandra’s problems, but bankruptcy loomed before them.

            Needing a break, Cassandra accepted an invitation to attend a spiritual conference in Colorado Springs. She came with some hesitancy about the speaker but quickly recognized that the teacher basically quoted the Bible. Cassandra couldn’t argue with that! Since scripture was true, what she was hearing had to be true. Finally, Cassandra went forward to have intercessors pray over her problems.

            She returned to the hotel room and made a definite decision to trust that the Holy Spirit had done something definite in her life. Cassandra would believe regardless of what followed.

Two weeks later her resolution proved true.

            As she was trying to sleep, Cassandra felt a sensation on her toes. She thought her husband probably wanted her to take him to work but when she looked no one was there. She had received a touch from God. Cassandra knew the sensation was real. Within five minutes she was asleep better than she had in years.

            When she awoke, Cassandra knew she was in a new place. She had received a gift and believed God wants everyone to have the same. Today Cassandra proclaims no matter what the problem might be, the Cross is the answer. What happened on the Cross is bigger than any problem we could ever have.

            Today she declares, “Let God be your refuge and your fortress, your delivery, and a very present help in time of need. He will meet you wherever you are.”

            Cassandra lives in this context. You might pause and give some thought about the context that surrounds you. One of anticipating God to act on your behalf? One of expectancy? Sometimes you have to wait? No problem. Cassandra will tell you about the difference your expectations can make. Faith opens to door  to the Divine context.

FROM OUT OF THE JUNGLE CAME

            Often unnoticed, there is an openness to spiritual reality in Africa that often far exceeds the Western world. While secular societies may scoff at the divine, many of the residents of Africa experience powerful displays of  healing power.

            Here’s an example.

            Mark and Pat Heiser finished Bible College and left for Nairobi, Kenya. Soon their home in Meru filled with the homeless and destitute children, victims of crime and drugs, called the Heiser’s Mama and Papa. Out of their work came other pastors like Allen and Mary Kusimba. One night a young mother stumbled into the Kusimba’s church.

            The woman had walked for miles carrying baby Florence, trying to reach a far-off clinic. When she found the clinic, the nurse gave her the unbearable diagnosis. Florence had already died.

            Overwhelmed with grief, the young woman began the strenuous journey back home to bury her precious daughter. As she trudged along, she heard an unexpected sound. From somewhere, the echo sounded like people singing. How could such be? It was 2:00 a.m. in the night. Nevertheless, the sounds of worship and praise floated across the jungle. Seeking relief and hope in her desperation, the woman drew near to the church.

            When she entered, the Pastor Allen rushed forward and greeted her. Reckoning her exhaustion, he offered to hold the baby for her. Discovering the baby was cold and stiff, the pastor called for everybody to pray. Placing his hands on the dead baby, as the pastor prayed, he abruptly felt the Holy Spirit say, “It is well with the baby.”

            Pastor Allen called aloud for the spirit of life to enter the lifeless body. As the small congregation prayed, the pastor continued to take authority over death. The small, stiff body started to move her arms. The prayers became even more urgent. Little Florence began to breathe! She was alive!

            The congregation broke into excited praise. The next day when the story spread through the village, everyone was amazed at what their heavenly Father had done.

            Amazed indeed! However, we don’t have to go to Africa to discover such events. They happen in your backyard if you know where to look. They are found and seen through the eyes of faith. Take a look.

THE FUTURE LOOKED BLEAK UNTIL

            People tend to think prayer is calling God’s attention to something He’s not aware of. Wrong. Prayer is reaching into the love of God to focus on a specific need. Like a magnifying glass concentrating the sun’s ray into a burning heat, prayer brings healing power to a specific point. Right.

            Here are some examples.

            Kitie struggled for years with a condition that left her entire colon affected. She contacted Christian Healing Ministries in Jackson, Florida and asked for their prayers and intercessions. This year when she went for her normal colonoscopy the doctor said for the first time in a decade the entire region was normal. She thanked God. Prayer answered.

            Jessica had lived through three pregnancy losses. During a conference on healing, she asked for prayer to be able to bear a normal child. People gathered around her and interceded. Jessica could feel powerful prayers lifting her up. She was deeply touched and felt her heart fill with gratitude. Today she sits on the couch and watches her nine-month-old son John play with his toys on the living room floor. Prayer answered.

            Glenn struggled to survive grand mal seizures. Since his teenage years, he had experienced seizures, but was hit by such a violent episode that he landed in the hospital for three weeks. The doctors were not optimistic in that if he recovered at all, Glenn might not be able to function. Laura realized how serious his problem was and requested a group to begin praying for him. The attending doctor said his survival was a miracle and the fact that he could talk and function normally was simply amazing. Currently, Glenn is reading through the Bible with a friend and deeply loves the Lord. Prayer answered.

            Could your intercessions be such a magnifying glass for someone conveying the healing power of God’s love to bear on a problem? Most certainly! Any and every one can become part of this dynamic partnership with the Heavenly Father. When we pray for someone, we are sending them the most wonderful gift possible. God’s love.

The Miracle of the New Year!

The New Year is a time when people all around the world celebrate new beginnings and make resolutions for the year ahead. But did you know that Jesus also performed a miracle during this time? In the Gospel of John, there is a story about Jesus attending a wedding in the town of Cana. During the celebration, the hosts ran out of wine, causing embarrassment and distress. Understanding the situation, Jesus transformed water into wine, saving the wedding feast and bringing joy to everyone present.

This miracle is a significant event because it reveals Jesus’ divine power and his willingness to help others. It also teaches us about the values of abundance, generosity, and the importance of celebration. Jesus showcases his ability to turn something ordinary, like water, into something extraordinary – wine. By doing so, he demonstrates his authority over nature and his ability to meet people’s needs. In this case, Jesus brought happiness to the newlyweds and their guests, showing his compassion and desire to bring joy into their lives.

Moreover, this miracle highlights the significance of celebration in our lives. The wedding feast is a time for expressing joy and happiness, an occasion where people come together to share love and laughter. By performing this miracle, Jesus emphasizes the importance of celebrating life’s milestones and cherishing the moments we have with one another. It serves as a reminder for us to approach each new year with an attitude of gratitude and a spirit of celebration, knowing that Jesus is there to bring abundance and joy into our lives.

As we embark on a new year, this story reminds us to celebrate life’s milestones, cherish our time with loved ones, and have faith that Jesus can transform even the ordinary into something extraordinary. May the New Year be filled with blessings, joy, and a renewed sense of hope as we remember this miracle and Jesus’ presence in our lives.

THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS

Jesus’ birth is undoubtedly a true miracle, as it defies the natural laws of conception and childbirth. According to the Bible, Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary, who conceived Him through the Holy Spirit. This miraculous event challenges the scientific understanding of human reproduction and emphasizes the divine intervention in Jesus’ birth. The concept of a virgin birth is biologically impossible, making it a supernatural occurrence that highlights Jesus’ divine nature and his exceptional role in salvation.

The miracle of Jesus’ birth becomes even more extraordinary when considering the prophecies foretelling it. The Old Testament predicted the coming of a Messiah born of a virgin in Isaiah 7:14, stating, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” This prophecy clearly indicates that Jesus’ birth is not merely a coincidence but the fulfillment of divine plans. The fulfillment of these prophecies adds weight to the claim that Jesus’ birth is a true miracle, as it demonstrates the divine orchestration of events throughout history.

Furthermore, the significance of Jesus’ birth lies in its purpose and impact on humanity. As the Son of God, Jesus was sent to Earth to offer salvation and reconcile humanity with God. His birth marks the beginning of this divine mission and the ultimate sacrifice that would follow, leading to the redemption of mankind. This mission would have been inconceivable without the miracle of Jesus’ birth, as it sets the foundation for his life, teachings, and ultimately, his crucifixion and resurrection.

Jesus’ birth is undeniably a true miracle that defies natural laws and confirms his divine origin. The occurrence of a virgin birth, as foretold in prophetic texts, serves as a testament to the divine intervention and highlights Jesus’ exceptional role in salvation. Without Jesus’ miraculous birth, his mission to offer redemption and the eventual sacrifice for humanity’s sins would not have been possible. The miracle of Jesus’ birth acts as a cornerstone in Christianity, emphasizing the remarkable nature of his life and teachings!

FEAR GRIPPED HER UNTIL ….

            Fear has a diabolical way of effectively cancelling what the Holy Spirit wants to do in you. Of course, a negative medical diagnosis sends chills down your spine. When a physical condition doesn’t go away, everyone starts to worry. Unfortunately, fear sets up roadblocks for what we have been praying about.

            Teresa Houghteling knew her dominant emotion was fear. Suffering from a deadly and incurable Sjogren’s syndrome disease, she concluded the only alternative was to live with the condition to the end. Then Teresa had a spiritual experience that deeply touched her emotional life.

            Strangely, her body didn’t seem to line up with what was happening to her soul as the symbols persisted. Four years later, she was also diagnosed with lupus, had problems in her back, and carpel tunnel struck her right arm. Her emotions became pure confusion. Fear returned with a vengeance.

            Two years later Teresa was in a training school teaching healing when someone spoke a word from the stage that seemed to be especially for her.  Teresa felt she should speak to the physical problems in her body as if they could hear her. She demanded they leave. Regardless, Teresa was determined that fear would not dominate her life again.

            Eventually complete health and freedom returned. Teresa would be the first to tell you that recovery did not happen overnight. However, emotional healing took place before physical healing followed. As Teresa focused on her relationship with God, the symptoms slowly faded away.

            Often people with problems do not realize how much fear has infected their thinking and feeling. They may become apprehensive without realizing how invasive fear has become. Ongoing fear turns into an infection poisoning their dreams, hope and faith.

            Here’s the answer. I John 4:18 says, “Perfect love casts out fear.” Perhaps, we need to seek the “perfect love” of God as we seek the physical healing we have been worrying about. Allow the Holy Spirit to bring the Father’s love into your life without worrying about the physical or any other kind of problem. Defeat the fear first and the rest will follow.

DREAMS? WHEN THE FIGURE APPEARED…

            Last week, I wrote about the figure of Jesus the Christ appearing in the dreams of Muslims. Many people wanted to know more about these occurrences. One of the people I mentioned was Tom Doyle. His book Dreams and Visions: Is Jesus Awakening the Muslim World? (Thomas Nelson) describes these experiences in detail. You will find his observations fascinating.

            Working as a missionary for over five years, Doyle was initially skeptical but began hearing over and over about Muslims having dreams and visions of Jesus. One woman claimed a vision of the curtains she should buy for her 10,000 square-foot house. Doyle just didn’t believe God operated like that. He discovered he was wrong.

            As he listened to many people, Doyle realized that God rescues people in ways that more conservative people like Tom weren’t use to recognizing. An Egyptian named Hassan helped change his mind.

            Having become a believer, Hassan tried to share his faith without being found out in a city hostile to the Christian faith, but his personal story leaked out. He was waking up one morning when he felt the muzzle of a gun in his face.

            “Don’t say a word,” the kidnapper said. “Get up and come with me.”

            As Hassan stumbled through the darkness, he could feel the gun in his back. Hassan was sure he was on his way to an execution. His kidnapper forced him into an old warehouse. Hassan was certain he would not see the light of day again. As he walked along, the young man whispered, “Jesus, into Your hands I commit my spirit.”

            Hassan was forced into a foreboding room lit by only one single candle. The dim light revealed ten Muslim men circling him and ordering him to sit down. They stared at him.

            Finally, the kidnapper spoke. “We are all imams who studied at Al-Azhar University. During that time, each of us had a dream about Jesus and each of us has privately become a follower of Christ. We each prayed to know what this means and He has brought us together. Now we meet three times a week in secret to better know how to follow him. He led us to you.”

            The gun, the kidnapping had all been a ruse to avoid being caught in a Muslim city where great danger would have followed. The meeting concluded with one question. “Will you teach us the Bible.”

            All because of dreams.                     

            And you? Listen to your dreams. You may be surprised by what you discover.

MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!

OUT OF THEIR DREAMS APPEARED …

            As the attacks on Israel unfold, the Middle East erupts in fire. In the midst of the chaos, we must remember that Jesus was a Jew and Christianity grew out of Judaism. One wonders where the Hand of God is in this current war. It may surprise you to learn that in the last couple of decades more Muslims have become Christians than in the previous 1400 years. The cause? Supernatural visions and dreams.

            This means that the miraculous appearances of Jesus Christ remain one of the most significant spiritual awakenings in the world today. Here’s some examples.

            Living in Jerusalem, Rami had been a fervent Muslim before he started to dream about Jesus. Out of nowhere arose these vibrant appearances. His dreams were not vague, but bright and completely focused when Jesus appeared in a white robe. In his dream, Rami went over and embraced Jesus. When he awoke, Rami made decisions that changed his life.

            Of course, the Bible is filled with stories of God speaking through dreams.  In the Old Testament Jacob’s dream ladder in the night is such an encounter. (Genesis 28:10-16)  The New Testament starts with Joseph’s dream instructing him to take the baby Jesus and Mary to Egypt. (Matthew 2:13-14). Dreams have been one of the ways God speaks to humanity.

            Tom Doyle worked as a Christian in Cairo. As he was walking through the crowded market place, a Muslim woman started yelling, “You’re the one! You’re the one!” Noor pushed through the crowd toward Tom. “You were in my dream last night. Those clothes—you wearing the clothes. For sure it was you!”

            Noor explained that Doyle was in her dream when Jesus appeared. He walked with her beside a lake and told her how much he loved her. The woman had never experienced such love and peace in her life. As Jesus prepared to leave, he told her to find Tom Doyle the next day and he would explain what she needed to know about why Jesus visited her in her sleep. Jesus told her that Tom Doyle would be wearing the exact clothes he now had on. That was how she recognized him in the crowded marketplace.

            Noor responded, “For the first time in my life, I felt no shame. … I felt perfect peace.” The encounter completely came in a dream.

            On Pentecost, Peter predicted, “Your young men shall see visions and your old men dream dreams. (Acts 2:17) These visions and dreams continue to happen.

            In the mist of Israel’s war with Hamas, terrible things will follow. People will be killed. Nevertheless, our Heavenly Father is not silent. Even in the dark of night, God continues to speak.

            And you? Listen to your dreams. You may be surprised by what you discover.           

            Remember. Miracles never cease.
