THE GREATEST MIRACLE
As I look toward the New Year, I ask myself a question. Out of the multitude of miracles I’ve encountered and discovered, what is the greatest miracle? If you’d go back and review my stories that span more than four years, you’ll discover amazing results as the hand of God moved. But what was the greatest one of all?
The stars in the sky and the systematic rotation of the seasons year after year through countless centuries offer their response. Even with the painful political nonsense we have had to endure, the world still continues on its way intact. Nations come; nations go. But we exist in a world governed by an unseen power that maintains order even when we degenerate into corruption, strife and combat.
Why?
Because we have a Heavenly Father who loves us regardless of our sacrilege, inadequacies, and inconsistencies. Even if we do not turn to Him, his love endures. The love of God continues unabated to the end of time. That, my friend, is the greatest gift of all.
Oh, and remember miracles never cease.

THE MAN WAS OVERWHELMED WHEN…
In Quin Moore’s world extraordinary events were considered the norm. He had grown up in a Pentecostal Church where people prayed for things to happen and they did. Perhaps, you’d like to know more about the Pentecostal Movement.
Pentecostalism appeared around the turn of the century in the Azusa Street revival in Los Angeles, California beginning on April 19, 1906 when a black preacher named William Seymour began calling the Holy Spirit down on the congregation. Many people repented and fell under the power of the Holy Spirit. The revival lasted until 1915 and is considered to be the beginning of Pentecostalism. From humble beginnings, the movement rapidly spread across America and into Oklahoma.
When Quinton went to college, he encountered attitudes at the other end of the spectrum. The skepticism bug began to bite. Modern academia looked askance at the divine intervention stories coming out of Pentecostal churches. They were considered emotionalism, psychological manipulation, as well as nonsense. As Quinton studied logic, philosophy, and science, he began sliding to the edge. He certainly believed in the basic tenets of the biblical faith, but the supernatural dimension became less and less attractive. After Quinton completed an excellent education, he felt called into the ministry and started exploring various aspects of outreach.
A church in Liberal, Kansas called him to come up and speak. Taking his new wife Annie with him, he drove to a small congregation, to try his hand at preaching. Around 35 people showed up to hear this young man.
The typical plain church building had a communion table underneath the pulpit with a thanksgiving basket sitting in the middle of the table. Bananas, apples, oranges had been piled together to represent the harvest season. People sauntered in and sat down to listen to this young fellow.
One man was particularly noticeable. Slouched down in the middle of the pew, the man stared at Quinton with a defiant look on his face. While no words were spoken, he seemed to be daring the preacher to say something. Quinton could feel the challenge written across the man’s face.
Quinton launched into his sermon, but a strange thought blipped through his mind. “Take a banana and put it on that obstinate man’s head.” While Quinton knew what it was to have the Holy Spirit speak in his thoughts, this idea sounded beyond the preposterous. He kept preaching but the idea wouldn’t go away. Finally, he jumped down from the pulpit grabbed a banana out of the basket, and started up the aisle pointing the fruit at the man’s head.
The defiant look vanished and the fellow virtually fell out of the pew. He began crawling up the aisle crying. The man grabbed the kneeling rail and sobbed bitterly. Most of the people in the congregation were family or knew him. They gathered around, praying for his wholeness.
After the service was over, Quinton approached the man to inquire what had happened. “Look,” the man said. “I cynically told the Lord if this preacher hears from you, let him put a banana on my head.” Still sobbing, the man said “you did!”
Does our heavenly Father speak to people today? There’s a man in Kansas with a banana who will tell you so.
Remember miracles never cease.

SHE FOUND IT IMPOSSIBLE TO BREATHE UNTIL…
I am often asked if there is any special place where miracles most often seem to happen. Of course, they occur where people are completely open to the Holy Spirit working in their life. No one can predict where the hand of God will move, but we can depend on the fact that our heavenly Father’s love is not only constantly, but particularly working when we hurt.
However, miraculous events often occur around people who have the gifts of the Holy Spirit. (See the New Testament, I Corinthians 12 for insight into the gifts of the Spirit) Such giftedness provides a channel for the power of God to be poured out. The Andrew Warmack conferences are a good example. Melanie Davis had gone to the Summer Family Bible Conference with such a hope.
Melanie had struggled with severe allergies her entire life. She took every medication possible, but still had difficulty sleeping. Breathing proved to be a struggle and her eyes were constantly red and usually swollen. Melanie Davis lived in continual misery. Often allergies forced her eyes shut. She had come to the Bible Conference hoping that maybe… just maybe… something … anything could make her life easier.
As the evening session unfolded, the speaker made a surprising announcement. “Someone here is struggling with breathing and a seasonal-type allergy giving them trouble sleeping.” Looking out over the audience, the speaker called out if that person was there, they should stand up.
Melanie abruptly felt like there were arms lifting her up. She rose to her feet feeling rather embarrassed. The speaker immediately suggested that the people around her should place their hands on Melanie and pray for her condition. With her eyes closed, Melanie could feel the warmth of hands being placed on her shoulders and prayers being said.
Lost in the prayers, Melanie no longer heard anything that was being said, but she felt the power surging through her body. Suddenly, her eyes popped open. She could see everything around her clearly. The swelling was gone. The itching had vanished. Melanie could feel the condition leaving. Stunned, she began to cry. Later she took a bicycle ride outside in the breeze and had no problems. She was healed.
Where did the miracle happen? At a place where gifted people prayed for others in need. Could be a church, a meeting, a conference. Just look for the places where spiritual gifted people are at work. And remember: miracles never cease!

DREAMS CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING (REPOST)
Ever have a dream that changed everything? A dream that lingered for days? Such dreams spring from the unconscious and have a way of burrowing into our conscious minds, alerting us to something important that we may have missed? The biblical stories of Jacob dreaming of a ladder coming down from heaven or Joseph being warmed to take the baby Jesus to Egypt reminds us of the importance of dreams. Here’s an example.
Tom Doyle was an important frontline missionary in Egypt with a special ability to work with Muslims. The contact began when he discovered something was happening in the dreams of many Muslims encountering Jesus. His friend Rami had one of these dreams.
A man in a white robe appeared in Rami’s dream and said that he loved him. In his dream, Rami was standing beside a lake when he walked over and kissed Jesus. As Tom listened to people in Gaza City, he began to hear the same story again and again. Jesus would appear in the dream in a white robe, telling the person that he loved them and had died for them. Similar dream reports began coming in from all directions, Iran, Iraq, Syria, were reporting the identical dream.
Ads were placed even in Egyptian newspapers. “Have you seen a man in a white robe in your dream? He has a message for you. Call this number.” These ads became a way that Christian ministries reached people.
Kamal, one of his associates, felt he should go down to the Khan el-Khalin market place because God had a special assignment for him there. Out of the crowd, a Muslim woman named Noor broke through the crowd shouting, “You were in my dream last night! You’re the one. Those clothes – you were wearing those clothes. For sure, it was you.”
Tom Doyle asked Noor, “Was I with Jesus?”
“Yes,” the woman said. “Jesus was with us.”
The woman explained, “Jesus walked with me alongside a lake and told me how much he loved me. I never felt so much peace. I ask him, “Why are you visiting me, a poor Muslim woman with eight children?” He said, “I love you, Noor. I have given everything for you. I died for you. Tomorrow, ask my friend about me. He will tell you everything you need to know to understand my visit.”
“I have never been loved like I was when Jesus walked with me in that dream,” Noor said.
The risen Christ is still coming to people both in their dreams and in their daily experience. Ask him to come to you, awake or asleep. He’ll show up with empowerment.

MORE THAN ONE MIRACLE?
Often, we think of people experiencing a miracle as if that’s a once in a lifetime experience. If you’ve had one, fantastic… but more than one? One after another? Remember that the miraculous is a product of a divine relationship. Put away your calculator.
Jodie Berndt discovered this fact when she lived with her younger sister Jennifer’s struggle with colon cancer. Jodie thought the problem was only a disorder. She didn’t understand that Jennifer stood at death’s door. Her sister simply kept her problem to herself until her mother recognized the lump in her stomach required a doctor. The medical prognosis was immediate. Jennifer had a malignant tumor: cancer.
But Jennifer immediately turned to and trusted God. She believed her heavenly Father would heal her. As she prayed, the scripture verse came to mind. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…” She knew God had spoken. Miracle one: Jennifer knew she would be healed.
The story of Jennifer’s resolute faith spread and a local newspaper even wrote an article on her convictions. She was deluged by visitor’s and people she had never met wanting to know about her faith. A woman wrote, “If this teenager can find joy in the Lord, so can I.” The impact spread. Miracle two: others were impacted.
Jennifer’s tumor had to be removed because it had grown to the size of a grapefruit. The doctors felt there was a good chance that the cancer had spread. To their amazement they could find no trace of cancer anywhere else in Jennifer’s body. It couldn’t be possible, but it was. Miracle three.
As a follow-up, a specialist at John Hopkins University examined Jennifer and came back with a conclusion. “It’s very unusual. I can’t even tell she ever had cancer.” Jennifer had recovered in an astonishing amount of time. She reflected, “Even with the physical pain, this has been one of the best times in my life.” Ten years later the physician who removed the tumor wrote, “Contrary to what so-often happens, she is clear of any risk of recurrence.” Miracle four.
Jennifer’s perspective? Certainly, she was grateful for the healing, but her response was surprising. “The real miracle is in how God used my experience for His glory. I wrote down all the ways He was glorified and I counted more than sixty-five different items.”
Thanks, Jennifer, for reminding us that glorifying God is the path to the miraculous.

ANGER INFECTED FOR YEARS UNTIL …
People are often surprised by how much healing comes through forgiveness. Human nature tends to bury injustice and hurt deep in the soul. Even if we’re not aware of how much we are harboring, the brokenness tends to fester and infect. The poison of resentment can contaminate our best thoughts and hopes. No matter how badly we have been treated, forgiveness remains necessary.
Regardless of what your religious background might be, the need for forgiveness remains the same. Protestant, Catholic, or Jewish, all have the same issue. And all can find the same miraculous release. It’s a matter of facing the truth.
We must wrestle with how we feel until we get the injury out of our system. When those difficult remembrances return, they are opportunities to set us free from the past. Our quiet inner work becomes God’s opportunity for renewal. Sometimes, meditations can take on a life of their own. Muriel Neveux made this discovery.
Muriel was contemplating the figure of Jesus on the Cross and considering the agony of the Crucifixion. In this silent prayerful mode, she thought about unspeakable pain Jesus had experienced. At that moment, Jesus seemed to have looked down at her and spoke. “Bring to me each person who has harmed you in any way.” Muriel immediately felt skepticism and didn’t want to do so. Jesus spoke. in her heart again. “Bring them to me and forgive as I have forgiven you.” Trying to put her reluctance behind her, she began naming the people who came to mind, bringing them to the foot of the Cross. The memories began to pour out of her. It seemed that a parade was marching by.
But one person would not join the crowd. The hurt seemed too permanent. Muriel cried out for Jesus’ help. To her surprise, Jesus came down from the Cross and walked over to the resistant woman. He reached out his arm’s in forgiveness. The woman resisted and even began to pound on his chest. The harder she pounded; the wider Jesus opened his outstretched arms. Finally, her stubbornness crumbled and the power of his love embraced her.
Jesus put one arm around the woman’s shoulder, and one arm around Muriel’s shoulder and carried both of them to his Cross. Taking Muriel’s hand and the woman’s hand in his hands, Jesus blessed them. Standing at the foot of the Cross, Muriel could feel Jesus’s love penetrating her heart. Finally, Jesus returned to the Cross. Looking down on Muriel and the woman, he said, “I am on this Cross to set you free. I have redeemed you. You are new people with hearts of flesh.” Jesus then looked up into heaven and said, “It is finished.”
What had begun as a meditation, had become a miraculous reality. All thoughts of revenge and anger had been transformed. The miracle of a healed heart had set Muriel free. Anyone can experience the same miracle at any time. It’s a matter of coming to the Cross and seeking the healing hand of Jesus.
Remember: miracles never cease!

HE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BUT …
You may not be familiar with the name Dr. E. Stanely Jones because he was part of an era that is now gone. A medical doctor, Dr. E. Stanely was also something of a diplomat, trying to bring stability and balance to India and China. In fact, he was in China when the Japanese invaded and World War II began. Recognizing that he could be trapped in China for the entirety of the war, Dr. E. Stanely started searching for a ship to get him out of the oncoming conflict.
I had the privilege of spending time with this great man while I was in seminary. By this time, E. Stanely was an old man probably close to 90-years old, but he was on the road working as hard as ever. He was internationally known for his stories of the miraculous experiences he had during his many years on the mission field. We talked for a while and then he asked me to pray with him. We knelt side by side as he prayed and I was moved by the sound of his voice. Afer we concluded, he told me the rest of what happened in China.
Dr. Jones caught the last tramp freighter that left Shanghai. The old ship slowly traveled from port to port, but staying ahead of the Japanese invading army. The freighter pulled into a port in Bangkok, Thailand. As the ship touched shore, Dr. Jones could hear the Holy Spirit saying, “Get off this boat.” He froze.
If he left the ship, he could be stranded in Bangkok for the rest of the war. The inner voice spoke again. “Get off this boat.”
Because he always obeyed the voice of God, E. Stanely had all of his luggage piled up on the dock. Thinking he might be crazy, he watched the ship sail out of the harbor. The ship went one mile and was struck by a torpedo. The freighter and the entire crew immediately sunk.
Later when he told this story, a man stood up in the audience and said, “You mean you were the only one God wanted to save on that ship?”
Dr. Jones answered, “No sir. I was the only one listening.”
Hearing God speak is a miracle … a miracle anyone can participate in. It’s a matter of learning to reach inward spiritually and open your heart and mind to the Transcendent. Most of the time we are too preoccupied to realize we are closed. As you pray, don’t just talk. Listen.
Remember: miracles never cease!

THE TERRORIST STARTED TO KILL WHEN …
To say white supremacist David Young was a little crazy is an understatement. He came wheeling into Cookeville, Wyoming intent upon wiping out the elementary school. At one time Young had been the town’s marshal but was fired for incompetence and reckless behavior. Now, he was back to make the town pay.
With gasoline bombs, rifles, and handguns, he and his wife raced into the school shouting, “This is a revolution, and I’m taking your school hostage!” The school secretary was warned that setting off any alarms or calling the police would result in every child being killed. Nearly a third of the town’s population, 150 children and several teachers were herded into a large room. They could only be saved by him receiving a $300 million ransom and a personal call from the President. His diary would later reveal that his real plan was to get the money and then blow-up the school, his wife, and himself.
When Young took off for the bathroom, he handed the bomb to his wife Doris. She apparently set it off by accident. The cataclysmic explosion completely wrapped her in flames. Smoke shot across the building. Teachers tried to throw children out the window as the entire room broke into flashing fire.
But it was in the midst of the attack that the miracles unfolded.
The escaping children told their parents what they saw. Down through the ceiling “beings of light” began to descend. First grader Nathan Harley thought immediately that they were angels. Rachel and Katie Walker said they were “bright like light bulbs” and that they hovered over the hostages protecting them from the flames. The angel hovering over Nathan told him she was his great grandmother. “The bomb is going to explode and the bad people are going to die. Go stand by the window.” Other “beings of light” told other children the same thing. A six-year-old heard “the presence” say a bomb was about to explode and she should hurry to the window.
Bomb expert Richard Haskell of the Sweetwater County sheriff’s office said, “To call it a miracle is the understatement of the century.”
Miracles happen in many different ways every day. The truth is that children are often more open than adults. They particularly frequently see and hear what their elders miss. Here’s their message for you. Open yourself that you may see what you would never have expected otherwise.
Remember miracles never cease.
