THE MIRACLE MAN

In I Corinthians 12, the Bible says that the Holy Spirit imparts the gift of working of miracles. You believe that? Well, suspend any judgments until you meet T.L. Osborn. I know his daughter LaDonna and heard some of the stories of his remarkable ministry from her. Why don’t you know about him? Almost the entire scope of his ministry was outside the United States where multitudes gathered to listen to T.L. and his wife Daisy’s message. From across Africa and India thousands and thousands received miraculous recovery. How did it happen?

The story begins with a failure. The Osbornes went to India as missionaries and struck out. Unable to convey their message of the Resurrection with any success, they returned to America discouraged. Something was missing but they didn’t know where to look. T.L. and Daisy studied their Bibles constantly and went to conferences seeking the answer. At a particular convention, the speaker proclaimed, “If you ever see Jesus, you will never be the same again.” The Osbornes were captivated by that exclamation.

They returned to their room and began praying, petitioning until late in the night when they finally fell asleep. The next morning at 6:00, the Lord Jesus appeared at the foot of their bed. The risen Christ stood there as real as they were. T.L. fell at His feet. Tears flowed out of his eyes. He had no idea how long he lay there stunned. With no sense of passing time, he finally staggered to his feet. Unsure of how long, he’d been on the floor, one thing was certain. Jesus Christ had become the total Lord of his life. Now with an unswerving conviction, T.L. Osborn knew Jesus would be the Lord of his life forever.

When Daisy looked at him, she knew that she had a new husband. T.L. was a changed man. She knew nothing else mattered to him but following Jesus Christ. Everything changed.

Returning to the Third World, crowds flocked to hear the message and multitudes were touched, healed, restored, and made whole. For the rest of their lives, Daisy and T.L. proclaimed the message that their daughter LaDonna continues to propagate. The miracle ministry never stopped.

What’s the point? The scripture means what it says. The gift of working miracles continues to be poured out even to this moment. However, even more important is the reality of the message of Easter. The risen Christ is still appearing to people and the Kingdom of God continues even in difficult times.

So, what’s your gift? Believe it or not, a gift from the Holy Spirit has your name on it and is waiting for you to receive. Take a look at I Corinthians 11-14. As with the Osbornes, reception of gifts begins with a hunger that begs for the blessing of God, a hunger that can only be satisfied by Him. Your hunger is His opportunity.
