MIRACLES NEVER CEASE
Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.
How do you deal with a prolonged struggle when you keep praying for divine intervention and nothing seems to be happening?
Joanne Moody can answer that question. After the birth of her son in 1999, Joanne was left with severe pain and damage. Surgery was performed in France only to have the worst follow. Joanne died on the operating table.
Leaving her dead body, Joanne felt the first relief from pain that she’d known in six years. The Lord himself entered the surgical suite and said to her, “I have seen your suffering… the prayers of the saints have given you a choice. You can go with Me, or you can stay.” Because of her husband and son, Joanne elected to stay. She survived but with lingering pain. Joanne struggled to understand how to have hope when healing seems impossible.
In the midst of the struggle, Joanne decided to attend a healing conference. On the final night, a businessman prayed over her. He put one finger on her friend’s hand over Joanne’s abdomen and said, ‘In Jesus’ name…’” The pain of almost 15 years left her body. She was in shock.
Joanne Moody had witnessed the hand of God doing what medicine couldn’t. Scripture had taught her to pray without ceasing with thanksgiving —And to trust God for the results regardless of what was at hand. She discovered in the shadows that the catalyst for healing is love through Jesus and his friend’s prayers.
Returning home, Joanne began praying for others as they had prayed for her. Other women joined her. Soon a group formed. Women praying for the sick, discouraged, and floundering in the neighborhoods around them; people with a prolonged struggle.
If you are struggling with physical, emotional, or spiritual pain that just doesn’t seem to go away, Joanne offers this prayer.
Jesus, You are the God of the impossible. For the one who feels hopeless,
Let Your hope rise. In Your name, we declare relief where there is pain,
Strength where there is weakness and freedom where there is fear. ‘Who the
Son sets free is free indeed. Amen.
The results of Joanne’s ministry now stretch far beyond her neighborhood, her state, and her country. She encourages sufferers to remember: You’re not alone; Keep talking to God; develop a community of friends; and seek wise care.
From years of working with struggling people, I can’t explain God’s timing, but I do know He will come in His time. Sometimes the delay is to strengthen us; sometimes our faith is not rightly placed. Sometimes someone needs to come along like the businessman that prayed for Joanne. The point? Our heavenly Father is there regardless!
Remember: Miracles never cease.
