MIRACLES NEVER CEASE
Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews with persons who experienced the touch of God.
A MIRACLE FOR YOU!
When was the first time I encountered a miracle? The memory lingers even though it’s been decades ago. Having survived a life-threatening illness, I began to study how divine interventions occurred and became convinced that anyone could pray for another person and results follow. At that time, the idea was considered “far out” by my fellow clergy. Nevertheless, I pressed ahead and announced we’d have a healing service.
That evening one of my dearest friends was present. June Watts had become like a second mother and worked with me. The week before a doctor diagnosed her ankles with severe deterioration. Within six months, he expected her to be in a wheelchair. She immediately started wearing large, ugly shoes. That night as people were invited to come to the altar for healing prayer, June came forward and knelt. To my surprise, June suggested that we pray for a woman sitting in the congregation.
I was taken back. Here June was with a far more serious problem and she wanted us to pray for someone else? The very idea went all over me and empathy flashed through my entire being. I was going to pray for her need!
I didn’t know that I was practicing demanding faith. I wasn’t arrogantly praying for myself, but reaching out in accord with the scripture and forcefully calling on God to act. I was demonstrating confident conviction, a form of faith. My spirit and soul were saying. “Lord, right now!”
As I prayed, I began envisioning an image of June’s ankles being cleansed. The picture in my mind were so clear and fascinating that I almost forgot where I was. Finally, I came down from my spiritual cloud and moved on to the next person to pray for them.
After the congregation had departed, I sunk down on the back pew and uttered, “My God, what has happened here?” The voice within said, “Your God has happened here!.”
A week later June called me. She had just returned from the doctor’s office. While he couldn’t explain how it happened, her ankles were completely normal. Forget the awful shoes. The ankles remained sound until the day she died.
The point? Miracles are always possible. You may be wary of praying for someone. Don’t be. Reach out with demanding faith, confident conviction and trust God to do the rest. You may be surprised by how significant you can be by praying for someone else. Just take the first step in confidence!
