MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!
Rev. Robert L. Wise, Ph.D. explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews and discoveries with persons who experienced the touch of God.
PAIN AND BITTERNESS LINGERED UNTIL
Stories of amazingly healed bones or disappearing tumors always thrill us. The spectacular may obscure the fact that reconciliation and forgiveness can require an even greater work by the Holy Spirit. The effects of an emotional injury can linger forever, only increasing in bitterness with the passing years. The pain of such betrayal can infect us for decades.
Ramona became romantically involved with a man who had no use for the church and the Christian faith. As their relationship continued, her faith dwindled. After two years of living with Stan, the relationship ended in an ugly confrontation. Because they weren’t married, they could both walk away, but bitterness had moved in to stay. In addition, to her resentment, Stan had borrowed $5,000 that he had not paid back. Ramona wanted every penny returned and went to a lawyer to sue.
Ramona returned to the church to help restore her life. A Healing Service helped her begin to develop a sense of restoration. A friend who prayed for her shared that the Holy Spirit wanted Ramona to forgive. She couldn’t see how this could happen and began crying as she didn’t believe forgiveness could ever be possible.
As she struggled, Ramona overheard a conversation. “Anything that takes you away from Jesus becomes an idol.” She abruptly realized she had replaced Jesus with Sam. He had become ultimate in her mind and that’s why the struggle was so difficult. Ramona had committed idolatry.
During a lecture, she heard about “cutting the cords” with the people we’ve been bound to and knew what she had to do. She spiritually and emotionally cut all cords with Sam and let go. At that moment, she felt a “popping” on the right side of her abdomen. Later that day, Ramona had her first appetite in months. She had been struggling with gall bladder symptoms. In a latter conversation with her doctor, he suggested she might have passed a gallstone.
One problem remained. Sam owed her $5,000. The debt had to be cancelled. She wrote Sam, telling him she was forgiving the amount and dropping the law suit. Her struggle was completely ended.
Later Ramona saw Sam. The bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness and anger were gone. Ramona was healed. A miracle? A healing indeed! A life was renewed, refreshed, and reordered.
If some of yesterday’s pain lingers, you are a candidate for the miracle of regeneration. Don’t wait. Reach out and receive what only the Holy Spirit can give. Remember: miracles never cease!
