MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!
Robert Wise explores the world of divine interventions from an objective point of view. An Archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches with a Ph.D., Rev. Wise relates his interviews and discoveries with persons who experienced the touch of God.
A VISION FLASHED BEFORE HIS EYES AND …
In his book The Case for Heaven, Lee Strobel conveys a picture of what happened to Chad Meister. A young electromechanical engineer, Chad had grown up questioning the reality of God. At the time he was living in Tempe, Arizona and had gone through personal struggles that turned his world upside down. Meister could not see any alternatives and had fallen into despair.
As depression settled in, Chad picked up a pistol and was ready to place the gun to his head. As the anguish pushed him to the edge, he made one final desperate plea. “God, if you’re really there, please show me, because I don’t want to live anymore. And if you’re not there, life’s not worth living.”
Suddenly a vision flashed before his eyes. The room seemed to fade into darkness and great white letters flashed in front of him. ACTS 14:22.
Chad Meister had no idea what this meant but knew it came from the Bible. He had never read anything from scripture, but put the gun down and found a Bible. The passage told the story of Paul and Barnabas talking to their disciples. The exact verse said, “We must go through many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.”
Those particular words rang through his mind and touched him deeply. A new perspective opened. In the struggles that he had previously faced, Chad realized that God had been their all the time pursuing him. He had simply pushed Him away.
The depression began to lift and fade. Laying the gun aside, Chad committed his life to God and cried out, “I’m going to follow you wherever you lead.”
Chad’s life changed. He found a Christian wife and joined a church. Ultimately, he left his scientific career and studied theology and philosophy, ending up as the chairman of the religion and philosophy department at Bethel University. Chad had made the journey from agnosticism to being secure with the ultimate truth.
The same road to the truth remains ready for all who want to travel the well-worn path. Don’t be afraid to step out.
