SHE WAS COMPLETELY BLIND UNTIL….
Ever pray when you were so overwhelmed you couldn’t find the right words? You weren’t sure what to say?
A friend helped me discover a portion of the answer. I’ve known Richard Hogue for decades. Richard has been one of the foremost evangelists in America, featured on television with important appearances as well as founding a number of congregations.
Early in his career, Richard was invited to go to India with a team who took the long journey to help people in need. After the airplane landed, Richard saw nationals in terrible physical stress. Blind, crippled, deformed, emaciated; everywhere he looked Richard saw the horror of people in serious condition.
As he and a fellow minister approached a crippled man, the friend started to pray, “I give you what I have, in the name of Jesus Christ…” The minister stopped. As an Evangelical, he wasn’t sure he could finish the passage from the Book of Acts, and say, “stand up and walk.” Both men were overwhelmed by the brokenness of what they were seeing.
That night Richard moved into a primitive setting that could hold maybe 5,000 people sitting on mats. Everywhere Richard looked, he saw people in serious physical upheavals. The sight became overwhelming. As he uttered a prayer, Richard heard the voice of Jesus say virtually audibly, “Pray for the sick!”
While he had felt inspiration many times, never had he heard such a command so clearly. Richard suddenly changed the direction he had planned for the evening and called out for prayer for anyone who needed healing. Using an interpreter, he called for people requiring restoration to come forward, expecting a mass of people would stand in front of him for group intercession. To his surprise, people started lining up in front of him one by one.
Richard looked down. A mother brought her daughter forward. The child had empty eye sockets with only some tissue that looked like tiny buds. Beyond that extremely small tissue, there was only emptiness.
A thought flashed through Richard’s mind. “Lord, you got to be kidding!”
The mother held up the child and looked at him with pleading eyes. Richard turned to the interpreter and said “Don’t interpret what I’m about to pray.” The man nodded. Closing his eyes, Richard cried out, “Lord, this is beyond me. I don’t have the faith to do this. I claim the faith of Jesus!”
He opened his eyes. The child was looking back at him with beautiful brown eyes. Richard was shocked. The little girl was healed.
As the mother began to weep, Richard broke down. The team around him began to weep. The little girl was healed.
When you don’t know how to pray you can do the same. Claim the faith of Jesus.
Remember: The little girl was healed. Miracles never cease!
